I'm looking for a car that I can drive like a knob and only have to worry about servicing, rubber and insurance. I don't want to have to fix it all the time.

I'm not overly bothered about mod cons, I'm coming from the worst car ever know so air-con, heated leather, cruise arn't a requirement but as ever a plus if on the table.

I don't want a 6 pot but I'm more then happy to take some FI, insurance depending.

I've made some threads in the past as I just don't know what I want but Fox has pointed me to that I want something fun, cheap and reliable. But I wanted to know your thoughts on what to consider.

Clio 172/182 and Civic Type R fit the bill perfectly IMO. Maybe as an outside bet an Astra GSI if you fancy something with a turbo although from what ive read the handling isnt a patch on the CTR and 1*2's.

Somebody needs a Civic Type-R

There's a few around here that I could test but they're all 9-10k. Are these blokes deluded or at ones at 5k going to be nails that need some loving?

clio 172??

I didn't think about that. Are they reliable? My heater's stopped working on my 106 and I just dispise things that break all the time I don't want that to be the case with another French hatch back.

would be able to get a lovely dc2 itr for that money

For that price they all seem to need some arch love, 3rd gear syncro and some rear wheel bearings :(

I'd love to get one but Fox said it'll be a nail and I'll have to spend a fotune fixing it, then I'll wrap it round a tree. :(

It's a Vauxhall. Give him some credit, at least.

Point taken lol. I just thought id throw a bit of an odd ball into the mix.

As for reliability on the 1*2's. Ive had my 182 since Feb 08. In that time alls ive had to spend on it is routine servicing, tyres, a new sidelight bulb and a numberplate bulb. Been 100% reliable. Just shop around carefully as their are a lot of abused examples out there.

Sams was in the garage more often than not iirc.

Your requirements are screaming for some vtec y0 action :)

Been happy with the general car features of any of the many hire cars you've had? That Focus must have had a pretty decent drive, minus the non-hot-hatch power, even if it did read 130mph on that dual carriageway. :D
