Irish accents..

I don't have anything against Americans. I was making a point about how people like to consider themselves something that they are not.

When asked what is your nationality, the vast majority of Americans would answer American.

Not when it's fact.
Yep, a large amount of their funding would have came from supporters in america, but they were also quite adept at self financing, particularly in the border areas were smuggling formed a large part of their income.

 trolling much?

Ermmm get a clue:confused: hes quite right in saying that theres a big Irish influence/following over there and again hes spot on with the IRA funding...i suggest you do a bit of reading before jumping in and making yourself look like an idiot:).

Yes there is a big Irish community over there, hence why the IRA got so much funding.

No he's not, not at all.

Americans are generally very patriotically American, but also they tend to be very proud if their great aunties third cousin twice removed on their husbands side once thought about visiting Ireland as that makes them Irish as well!

At least, that's my experience.

Thanks for the insult, but having grown up in Omagh in NI the last thing I need is any suggestion that I need briefed in Irish history. My point was more that in a thread asking about Irish accents the first reply brought up the IRA. There is a perfectly good thread for that about a dozen posts down.

edit: actually it's in SC http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18058222

An irish accent on a lady is awesome. Three and a half years later and i'm not fed up with it.

Although i'm still discovering what things like scallions and yokes are, and wondering exactly what i'm being accused of when she says i'm acting the maggot or being a messer.

When you find yourself saying "does be" instead of "is" then you'll know you've been there too long. I'm considered from N. Ireland when i'm home in Scotland now and have even been called a northerner in Dundalk even though when stood next to someone from N. Ireland I sound totally different.

and yes I have to agree Irish accents are sexy on women ;)

not ever seen this.... Where Americans call themselves Irish, Italian, Chinese, whatever....are in tightly knit communities of racially similar people.

Go into these places in America and it feels like a different country ...They will all call themselves american but they also recognize their ancestry and still feel connected to it.

Why some people have to look down on that is beyond me.
