What car would you have for 50k ? and would you buy one you couldnt afford to run ?

I keep finding myself drawn back to LCI E90's and E92's in my never ending quest for future ideas. As for which variant, it depends on how long I can force myself to wait I guess. Love that M3 saloon. Not bothered about fuel economy either as my new commute is a whole 5 miles :D
 
If I had 50k saved and still earnt about what I do now, less than half that p/a, I wouldn't buy anything over £20k. In fact I'd probably buy something nearer £10k. If I really wanted to spend some money I'd go for an FD2, DC5 or an S2000.

I'd much rather put that kind of money into my shambles of a property assumning I hadn't got to that stage already. Although I love cars, I think anythng much faster then my EP3 would be wasted on the UK roads and the way I drove that car, anything much faster would probably have got me up hill... I mean, in jail.

The reality of having £50k to spend would put me off the usual £50k value car, plus not much in this bracket excites me. I'd much rather have a crappy import Honda which I can make my own run without compromise. Then again, I'm the kind of person who would run an Ariel Atom as a daily ust becasue you really shouldn't... hmmm...
 
I think it would be something like an Alpina D3 for shopping and long distance touring with the family, though I'd investigate an LPG converted 335i.
Then I'd have a Caterham as a toy for the weekends.
