He's a retired old git. He probably spent his entire working life being a pocket Hitler. The only way he can relieve the tedium of feeding ducks and watching countdown all day to complain about everything.

It's what old people do.
 
I always thought parallel parking is cars parked next to each other like on Tesco's car park.
I must have been wrong all these years.

Hmm, just asked around the office and the older ones think the same as me and the younger ones think it's like parking up a street parallel to the kerb.

that's probably because the younger ones have it fresher in their minds from the driving tests ;)
 
Isn't it more like 'serial' parking though? I know what parallel parking means but isn't parallel more like side by side, or is it that the act involved being side by side at some point? :D

hehe if you'[re building a circuit maybe, but in this instance, you're parking "parallel" to the curb.

if you're parking in tesco/multi storey you're parking in a "bay"

When asked (in a driving test) to parallel park, they mean parallel to the kerb :) May also be because the starting position is parallel to the other parked car(s) :)

Should try parking around here - rarely have more than a foot left either side after getting into a gap and most of the time you just have to double park (parallel park next to someone else who's parallel parked and leave a note).
 
in Belgium if there's not enough room it's common to give a little bisou to the car behind and in front of you to "make" space.

Forget having ding free bumpers in Brussels :p
 
Parallel parking is this: ie double parking when you can't be arsed.
What you describe is ordinary parking as far as I'm concerned.

Parallel = 2 lines that don't intersect.

You're almost right! If car number 1 wasn't there and you (number 2) were a little closer to the kerb you'd be on the money.
