Except they have shafted those that are guarenteed not to pirate the game up the rear. No CD key = no playing online. GG

And its not like you can buy a mod chip for an xbox or PS3 is it?

I'm not entirely sure that's true. Half the people on these very forums can't resist the urge to mention they've got a 'copy' of the game early or post screen shots. I know that doesn't apply to all on here but it gives you a good idea of the percentage of these 'gamers' that don't pay for their games.

Is what true? I'd say its 100% that those that are moaning about a dedicated server would buy it to play online and unless you are using a cracked server forget it. The pirate issue is a cheap excuse for ditching the PC for $$$$ people would have more respect if they just said it was the case.

OK, but again they are a minority - outweighed by casual gamers and those that try to download the game illegally.

Casual gamers - they want to make it much easier for them to play online, enjoy the game and (no doubt) fork out for additional content.
Illegal downloaders - the want to stop them at all costs. It's damaged PC gaming to a point now that they have to start pulling back things like dedicated (and therefore hackable) servers.

That's what I think anyway :)

The stupid thing is though, that by removing dedicated servers they are pushing people more towards downloading a pirated version of the game. Without dedicated servers the multiplayer is many times worse, meaning all the game realy has for itself is SP, and its much easier to get a pirated version to play SP than it is to play MP with the cracked version.

If the devs focused on providing the best MP experience possible, then gamers would buy the game more instead of pirating it just for that MP.

Half the people? Exaggerate more?

 Yeah, and it's those very 'gamers' that have brought this around. They download the game, hack it, pirate it (whatever) and it's a sale lost to IW. They have to protect their investment and if that's at the cost of allowing dedicated servers and losing a few of the more hardcore gamers then so be it. In reality it's no huge loss to them.

Whatever the number of sales lost/names on this petition you can bet your bottom dollar that the number of pirated/downloaded copies outweighed it for CoD4 and MW2 - easy.

PC gaming has been on it's way out for a fair few years now. Sad, but true. And the 'community' are partly to blame. These people want EVERYTHING; games for nothing and the best, most reliable way of playing online.

It's all about MONEY...how to stop losing it and how to make more of it.

So to "protect their investment" they cost themselves over a million dollars in sales (and that's genuine sales not "potential sales")?

For that kind of money they could have developed the dedicated server side as normal and made more money :/

Couldnt agree more. Its sheer lunacy.

pleas etell me how being forced into some random sub standard match is "easier" than picking a server with the number of placers/ping/map rotation and gamemode you like from a big list you can sort by any of those catagories?

Well, perhaps you could do a count and let me know. Jeez. I was making a sweeping comment to get my point across.

It's more than a few, does that help?

And as with most sweeping statements you've just proven your self to be an untrustworthy hack who will make **** **** up to try and "get their point across"

After all if you can't get them to listen with the truth make some **** up that'll do it!

It's not genuine sales, it's people that have signed an online petition. The 50,000 or so currently signed up is probably just a percentage of those that would otherwise download the game illegally.

Like I said, the PC gaming community has almost brought this on themselves. Countless copies of games downloaded for nothing means these developers HAVE to do something to stop it. Have to. This is one of a few new ideas been tried over recent years.

AND the SP of MW2 will probably be worse than OFDR, given how I find OFDR much harder than MW1 in SP

lol wut

"otherwise" ??

You're saying that for some reason this news that they ****ed up the mp part of the game, the only bit that really needs you to buy if you want a decent experience, is some how going to make those pirates buy it?

Pretty much the exact opposite is going to happen people that would have otherwise bought it for mp will now pirate it.

MOST of the downloaded copies are for SP though surely?
Besides, OFDR is P2P, and that even allows you to play it pirated online

PLUS CD keys are supposed to stop online piracy mostly :)

"picking a server with the number of placers/ping/map rotation and gamemode you like from a big list you can sort by any of those catagories" you said it yourself. This is what the casual gamer isn't interested in doing - they don't care. They want to play a game and have a bit of fun. It's those that have turned all this tweaking/changing/rotation/etc in to a hobby that are in the minority. Matchmaking doesn't just put you in to 'a' game - it takes location, connection/ping, rank/skill etc all in to consideration.

And as with most sweeping statements you've just proven your self to be an untrustworthy hack who will make **** **** up to try and "get their point across"

Really. Wow. "you've just proven your self to be an untrustworthy hack who will make **** **** up to try and "get their point across" - kind of a sweeping statement right there don't you think? Shame, as you were doing so well.

Didn't take long for you turn to personal insults either did it - perhaps it hurts a little to know I'm right and that the merry little ride you're having on the MW2 hate-bandwagon is getting a little too bumpy.

piracy is just an excuse to sell dlc.

no dedi servers= no modded maps

the only way we can get any new maps is but IW making them and ripping us off by charging us for the dlc.

the console crowd have been ripped by this but have no-way other way of getting new maps, now they think were stupid enough to get ripped to.

I don't know whether CoD/MW games are pirated more for SP or MP but something has got IW attention enough to do what they have.

The CD keys aren't enough it seems. All these different security/protection methods (software, online authentication) clearly aren't working.:)

No most casual gamers i know like to choose the map they play.

hence why office does so well in Cs even though it's terrible for competitive play.

And the list can do all you listed there with a few small additions.

Really. Wow. "you've just proven your self to be an untrustworthy hack who will make **** **** up to try and "get their point across" - kind of a sweeping statement right there don't you think? Shame, as you were doing so well.

You said your self you made it up.

And the part you quoted isn't a sweeping statement, it's pretty specifically aimed at you hence the use of you not they, thier, them,us,we etc.

Yes dear, you're right.

You're utter unfounded and self admitted lie was truly correct, I shall never doubt you again.

Although if you consider being called an "untrustworthy hack" for making something up a personal insult, you must have the scruples of a claimsdirect lawyer.

Seriously. Stop. :p You are ridiculous.
