Ricky Gervais

Just got back now and it was fantastic. He had the whole audience pretty much crying.
There's one segment involving Noah's Ark and a book he had when he was 4 year old that was the funniest things i've seen in such a long time.

Money well spent!

Sweet. Can't wait for the DVD.

If you don't enjoy the office, what comedy do you enjoy?

This sounds similar to an argument a couple of mates have with me - I don't find the Office funny, don't like Flight Of The Conchords, think Alan Patridge is generally cringeworthy etc etc which means I like almost none of the comedy shows they rate.

The Monty Pythons, This Is Spinal Tap, Airplane, Animal House are all among my favourite comedy films. Bill Hicks, George Carlin, Chris Rock, Billy Connelly are among my favourite comedians although the lists for both extends a fair bit futher. As a general rule I don't like comedy where I feel I'm just laughing at someone being socially inept or through cringing awkwardness as that has no humour value for me, I prefer it when I can laugh because it is clever writing, usually with surrealism and flights of fancy in there. Some of the comedies I've mentioned that I dislike might be very cleverly written but based on what I've watched I've got no inclination to watch more for the few good moments.

This Is Spinal Tap.

Spinal Tap is one of the greatest films of all time, but I'm surprised that you didn't enjoy The Office considering you like that. You can see how The Office is an evolution of comedies like Spinal Tap.

Although I see your point I've tried to watch The Office on a few occasions and always found it rather unfunny, the humour was either forced or seemed to rely on an excruciatingly awkward situation that I just wouldn't laugh at. Some people like comedy that makes you squirm, I can't say it does anything for me. Maybe it's just based on my rather irrational dislike of Ricky Gervais and that he is now the annointed one and saviour of British comedy.

Then again I like a fair number of American teen comedies so I'm hardly starting from a position where I can claim some highbrow intellectual disapproval of it.

glad hes gone to the usa so i dont have to see his lame ass crap. hes one of te few people i could just choke for fun :D

there were a few meh bits in the office series but in general hes a self loving ******. watch him on any show he laughs harder at his own jokes than anyone i know. kanye of the comedy world.

He was awesome in Extras. Not actually seen a lot of The Office yet. When will it come on iplayer? when dvd sales drop?

 It says it's a family forum when you sign up and in the rules. Since this place has kids who use it, and is the forum is hosted on a respected shop I imagine they don't want to be in the news papers (which in this day and age lets face it can happen) because a kid was watching naughty videos with swearing on their forum.

naughty videos that they can easily watch on youtube? anyway, the rules also say this forum is completely detached from the company, which is why order and shop queries are not dealt with publicly here.

Loved the XFM shows and the podcasts he did with Pilkington and Merchant. His standup Im not so keen on, hes good at what he does but seems to recycle a hell of a lot of meterial. From the podcasts back as far as the stuff he did for the 11 O'clock show Ive heard too much of it before.

Definately going to give his new film a look, didnt think I would but I really enjoyed the Ghost/Desntist one.
