I thought it was bad over here, but some of these images are shocking.

Makes our (UK) efforts seem pointless.

Saw these the other day off reddit, they look awful!

If you read the captions as well there are so many of these "cancer towns" because of the pollution.

Number 12, is that a body?

Aye, as far as the West has come, China is now in a mixture of technological and industrial revolution as well as being very rural at the same time - such a vast land and they'll be able to pollute a lot of it before they realise it's time to cut back...

What'll be even more fun is if/when Africa ever gets in on the game and starts producing...

Despite all this, isn't America supposed to still be the World's greatest polluter?

Sean lock live stand up quote:

"After looking at America's efforts, I think to myself...why bother? I feel like I’ve turned up at an earthquake with a dustpan and brush......I'll do this bit right here, you do ALL THAT BACK THERE"

:D

Same applies to China :(

I never get the village ones. how can you dump so much rubbish in the rivers you depend on for food, washing and transport. All you need to do to target a lot of it is to set up several areas in the village for people to bring all rubbish to burn.

You can't stop industrial pollution, but you can at least vastly improve the water quality of your own back.

Scotland's (and maybe the UK as a whole) CO2 production has actually fallen in the past 15-20years or so.

This is the reason, we've exported it all to China where it results in even more polution due to less restrictive practices.

And why is there so many chemical, industrial and manufacturing plants churning out material at the cheapest price, with little regard to safety/environment (as it's too expensive to worry about) ? ? ? ?

They are there because of the western worlds materialistic need to have the same stuff we had 20 years ago - at 1/4 the price we used to pay. If they cleaned up their act - they would be no different to the UK and their exports would be as expensive as everywhere else. And that would be the end of their economy and progression.

It's just very very sad, all the people from 21 onwards.

Thing is, that's development for you. Industrial revolutions and the like - the UK has come a LONG long way since ours. There was indeed lots of destitution and pestilence and decay here back in the day.

The ones deciding to dump all the rubbish and chemicals won't be likely to live in the local rural village, funnily enough.
