It says on wiki (May not be true) that the series has been bought by Sky and will be aired on Sky Movies in Spring, why would they broadcast a mini series of 10 episodes on Movies and not on Sky 1?

According to the press release from Sky they want to show it without advertising breaks to show it "as the director intended".

That sounds to good to be true tbh, wish they could show it on BBC HD then you would be guaranteed no scummy adverts.

Well it's on HBO in America which you need a subscription for. So it's probably down to money (if it's true).

This series looks better and better with every trailer released, can't wait for it.

a lot of popular series are from HBO and no other channels that show there programs rape you for it.

whats the most popular hbo series now true blood? FX are showing it which is a free channel?

channel 4 are going to start showing it aswell

However, I'm not sure I believe what they said in that featurette though. I thought that the D-Day landings were the biggest invasion in history - the guy on there said that the Okinawa invasion was twice as big.

Also, they say that the Pacific theatre was the biggest theatre of operations consisting of 8 million men - surely the Eastern European front was much bigger than that?

I think they are trying to hype it up just a little bit too much. It's still going to be an amazing mini-series though.

Yup, just checked - Okinawa consisted of 60,000 troops in the initial landings, D-Day was 175,000.

Also, the estimated Soviet military losses for WWII appear to be over 10 million. If this is true then the total number of military personel on the Eastern Front dwarfs the 8 million fighting in the pacific.

It could be that Okinawa was the biggest amphibious landing in the pacific theatre and that the 8 million in the pacific was the biggest number of troops the U.S had in any theatre. Either way - they've seriously twisted the facts to add to the hyperbole.
