UK government to get tough on file-sharers

I'm sorry, but you're talking crap.

When did I ever say they were of good enough quality to watch on a large screen? They are compressed so they would never look good on a large screen.

I watch my media on either my MBP, my other laptop or my PC. The quality is perfectly acceptable for that.

If they are not good enough for a normal sized television then they are not good quality then are they, that's like saying "yeah they are pefectly watchable....................................................on my PSP !!!!!!" :p

IME decent cam releases look fine on a normal sized television. They aren't keepers but people are willing to compromise on quality to watch the latest stuff at the time it comes out, for free.

If the movie companies provided a legit way of achieving this, I would happily take advantage of it. It wouldn't kill the cinema because many people would still rather watch new releases on the big screen rather than at home.

Conisidering the amount of money the banks stole off us, the taxpayer, I think Mandy needs to be aiming his priorities elsewhere.

I guess the gage of quality can be subjective but I think any professional video engineer would say otherwise, I personally would say technically it's poor quality but acceptable for some people.

Will it's rumoured that Netflix could be offering a streaming and dod sevice in the UK next year, if so that would be awesome, I'll be signing up if they do, thier rates are very fair in the US, hopefully they will be over here when or if it arrives.

That's what annoys me they would say it will kill off cinemas, but like you say people will still be willing to watch it at the cinema, but what reason would have to download a dodgy cam if you can watch it in HD on your 50" plasma with full surround sound in the comfort of your own home on day of release at the cinema?

Many years ago when I used IRC lots I too had a letter from my ISP (NTL) asking me to stop doing what I was doing, I have the letter saved at home and can post up what it said tonight if anyone is interested. Needless to say I stopped promptly.

Of course they are good enough quality for displaying on my desktop or laptop screens. Therefore, they are good quality. If I was trying to watch them on a 40 inch TFT then they wouldn't be. **** me, it's not rocket science is it?!

Are you simple or something? :p

lol omg you really are stupid aren't you, just because they look 'better' on a smaller screen that doesn't actually make the video file good quality, what it means is your making a crap quality video file look better by viewing it on a smaller screen, the file and encoding itself is still technically poor quality.

Ironically, the movie was a pile of poo.

Leaving your paper on the train is theft. It denies the newspaper a sale! :D

BOTH RESULT IN A LOSS OF SALE! They are the same. How can you not see that?

Finding a newspaper on the train and reading it is not the same as downloading and distributing that newspaper freely to thousands of people. How can you not see that? When you find that newspaper you are not re-printing it or publishing it online, are you.

Whether it is called theft or not, isn't hugely important to be honest. What's important is that pirates don't use the legal distinction between theft and copyright infringment as a thinly veiled attempt to justify what they're doing as perfectly ok. Irrespective of its classification in civil / criminal law and what it says on wikipedia and in text books, it's still theft to me going by my moral standards of what I perceive to be classed as theft.

I'm stupid am I? I'd like to see you say that to my face. You might get half the sentance out before I put you in intensive care. Cheeky ****.

There's the crux. ISPs are are business. They aren't going to willingly get rid of a lot of their customers. Some maybe (perhaps those who are massive downloaders) but Mr Theoddfilm is going to be ok.

There's an interesting small nugget in the BBC article- as well as the three strikes rule other laws would be relaxed so it would no longer be an offence to rip music to your MP3 player for example. There's a daft law that needs abolishing.

It's the want for movies that made me upgrade from 8MB to 24MB, which equals more money for them, I doubt they will actually do anything. It's kinda why I have been with them for 4 years, LOL!
