Grand Theft Auto 4

Just got this a few days ago, at 30% story played. It runs nice (over 30fps at least) most of the time but on occasion it stutters quite badly (usualy after an hour or so of playing) its pretty random when it happens but its allways outside and happens a lot in light rain and more often at night.

Anyone else get this? its really annoying.
 
Some stuttering here and there is completely normal :p I get it too and my spec is quite high :O
 
It's a case of the game not being made for the PC from the ground up...That and it's generally a big game...So no wonder it stutters.

It could be the new shadows they put into the PC version. Putting the slider down to 0 makes it the same as the consoles, lights dont cast shadows from the random bits of stuff then :) Try it.
 
Lots of rumours suggesting it may actually appear on PS3 and PC, that the Microsoft exclusivity is only timed. My guess its like the Fallout 3 DLC situation. Obviously Microsoft dont want any hint of any other system getting it so it will be tight lipped.
 
Okay, so a surprise in the last few days- another patch! It claims to address some of the cheating problems online, and supposedly adds achievements for the first DLC.

I haven't got GTA4 installed atm, anyone tried the patch? Is there an improvement in online play?
 
Really enjoyed the mp but saw so many cheats playing online that I just couldnt be bothered in the end. RMAing my card though and its not worth me trying it out with the 3850 ive got in at the moment :(.
 
Are you trying ranked or unranked? whenever i looked for ranked games there seemed to be no one playing, unranked games however were farily easy to find and this wasnt too long ago.

Evey death match varition i joined either had a few unkillable players or players who were able to fire a huge barrage or rockets wiping out everyone else with ease. Real shame as the potential for mp in gta 4 is huge.

Quick search on youtube turns up the cheat that ruined dm for me, lets you fire rockets as if they were bullets from an assault rifle. Really, thanks for doing your bit to kill the game you *****.

Both. But I go with unranked, but not many people online, it's really annoying, since I used to love playing it on PS3 with loads of people on!

I know I hate the cheaters on it! I shot like a 100 times in his head and he won't die? :S cheating ******** they wreck the game!

Despite how much I love the game, it's really annoying when there's like 3 people max on free roam. :(
 
Anyone help me with performance.

Specs are:

AMD 2.8Ghz Tri-Core
2GB RAM
ATI Radeon 5770 1GB

It stutters all over the shop, even on lower resolutions.

Should a tri core be able to play it OK?
 
I have everything on max apart from view distance which is set to 38 not 100. It's not picking up my 2nd GFX card (total 2gb) but only picking up 1gb so it will not let me go any higher :(
