Failure rate of newer xbox's?

I've just this minute had UPS pick up my xbox for repair. It's my 2nd one to fall victim to RRoD. My first one lasted months, and this last one saw me through a couple of years. How are the newer ones though? Still just as likely to happen again?

It might. It might not. Statistically it's less likely, but the fundamental design hasn't changed.

My Launch 360 failed just before 2 years and 1st gen Elite failed just before 2 years.

You get the picture. Launch was RROD, Elite was E74 error

id be interested to know this. ive got a elite arriving tomorrow. is it likely to be a jasper or is there newer chipsets out now?

I thought Jasper was the newest chip, i believe mine has Jasper as it was made on 19th September this year and are apparently more reliable.

Assuming brand spanking new, it will likely be a Jasper, however it could quite possibly still be a Falcon depending on just how old the stock was from wherever you bought it.

How can i tell which chipset it is, once i get it back?

It will likely be whatever was in it before. The power supply is the giveaway. You need to check what wattage it is.

i don't know the full story, but i've just bought my elite and stumbled across the Jasper chipset which runs queter (apparently), uses less power and is more reliable, it uses 65 nanometer chipset as opposed to 90 nanometer to match the GPU.

According to the ever correct wikipedia. Xenon replacements are getting Opus chipsets rather than Jasper ones. I'll have to see what turns up. I don't really mind as long as it works.

My zepher that went back due to rrod came back a falcon. My mates falcon came back as another falcon.

I didnt think jaspers were used in replacing rrod mainboards?

They aren't, but as Aspect has found, the Opus chipset can be used. This gives a 65nm CPU, but still a 90nm GPU. It does run cooler but as I said before, the fundamental design of the Xbox 360 hasn't changed since day one and if thermal flexing occurs, a RRoD is possible.

just recieved my new elite and got a jasper. the psu is quite a bit smaller than the old ones.

also when did ms stop bundling a component cable in with their systems?

With the new version of the Elite, doesn't make sense I know.

Basically since the economy provided them with an adequate enough excuse to not include one to save pennies per unit.

So new 360's come with no leads at all to connect it to a TV?
Do Elite's still come with the optical/analog audio dongle?

I had a 1 year after launch 360 - RROD after 3 months
Replacement - RROD after 5 months
Sold the replacement
Bought an Elite (falcon) - RROD after 9 months
Replacement Elite - E74 after 6 months
Sold the replacement

I think Jasper will be better, but I wont be buying one.
