Looking to replace my 2 x TWIN3X20481333C9DHX 1GB sticks I only got them in january to get ny rig up and running so now its time to get some more.

I was thinking 4 6 0r 8gb

do i need 8? running on vista 64 although just ordered Win 7 64bit, I only use it for Auto cad, 3D modeling and Games.

Can anyone recommend either 2 stick or 4 sticks?

anyone else with high end rig with 790i what do you use?

If I get new memory at the right price i will give my current ones away nearly new!!

With standard PC usage + gaming I never go over 3GB. I have some images that are 21,600x21,600 and to open one of them uses up 4GB of memory but otherwise it's a bit of a waste having over 4GB.

I have 8GB, and most ive ever used at one time was 4.6GB, for most users 3-4GB is sufficient, no point getting less than 4 nowadays in my oppinions with memory being so cheap now.

Auto cad is a big program that depending on the work im doing can take a huge amount of memory. especially when doing really detaild work. thats the main reason I want to upgrade. so If i keep my 2 x 2gigs and add another 4 gig it should be ok?

I have decided to go for 4Gig in 2 sticks. I have found some made by patriot for the nforce 790i Ultra with sli @ 2000mhz has anyone got this?

I've used patriot Viper for about a year now, overclocked from PC6400 4-4-4-12 to PC8500 5-5-5-15 (not at pc now so might not be exact). great memory imho.

I've bought some Ripjaw PC16000 which I'm installing in my Striker II Extreme tonight.
I'll let you know how it goes!

Note you might not get clocks that high with all the Dimm sockets full!

yeah thats why i decided to go with 2 x 4gb, the max with 4 slots is about 1600. So I have gone for speed over more GB's Next thing i want is a Solid state drive ;)

I gotta be honest, the difference between 4Gb and 8Gb in performance terms is slight. I'd get 8Gb though as it's cheap, future proof and then you always know you have enough whereas 4Gb can be borderline.

I second that. Ram is cheap and no one can accuse you of having too much memory. Just buy as much as your budget and/or motherboard allows.

I managed to get a maximum 1933ish at C9 out of my RipJaw 2000 Ram.
I got into windows at 2000mhz but it crashed the moment I started Prime95.

The board and memory combination seems very happy at 1800 C8, and I'm sure the i790 will do four sticks at that!
