So I've never seen this film... It's frequently voted in the top 5 ever made and is #1 on IMDB. What are your thoughts on it? :)

DVD is in the post btw. :)

Good film. However that's it. I've seen it once and i didn't hit me as one of the best films I've seen.

Fantastic film, enjoyable every time I watch it. You shouldn't believe the hype (for anything) and you won't be disappointed. But that doesn't mean it's overrated.

Since expanding my horizons of cinema since my first viewing of Shawshank, it has gone down a little in my estimations. That said, it's still a great film.

On the face of it it's shouldn't be that great a film, I mean the plot 'twist' is largely predictable, and like most prison dramas, it's not short of a cliche or two.

I think having Morgan Freeman doing narration was a masterstroke though, it just kind of washes over you and sucks you in. He has the gravitas to convince you that he really is Red reminiscing about his time at Shawshank.

It was never on my radar until one day when I was bored I decided to watch it. Got to be one of the best films I've ever seen, truly great filmaking, evokes all sorts of emotions and has you gripped right through, despite it not being amazingly exciting. You just want to find out what happens to them.
