I play electric guitar and i was looking to buy a new one ( I currently own a tokai les paul standard ). Preferably in the price range of £200-£500. Any help would be appreciated.

You've already got something with 'buckers, so go for single coil this time.

Grab yourself a good Mexican Strat or Tele (play them first - there are some cracking mexican fenders to be had for the money), then use the change to upgrade one of your humbuckers in your Les Paul copy!

I've got a Mexican-made '57 replica strat and it's the dog's ********. Plays better than some of the Americans i've tried. You really need to play a bunch though and eventually you'll strike gold and find that diamond in the rough.

Looks like this:

Got the vintage pickups and everything. Quack city!

Is that one in the pic yours? I was considering strats more than anything else but because im only 11 the 50s ones have a real wide fret board apparently and the 70s style have 3 bolts on the neck so they come loose. hedrix is my biggest influence so the 60s one fits the description im looking for.... 4 Bolts, Regular size fretboard, 69 strat played by Hendrix and a fender.

I hate strats!

Thats a handy comment aint it.

Tends to be mexican not as good as american, but they are getting better and better, likes been said you can get some real good ones. Americans tend to have better build and parts electrics. Japanese are excellent if you can get hold of one get it.

I was maybe thinking of getting a SG custom 3 pickup ( epiphone ) or a tokai one maybe even another les paul but im not sure if that would be a wise decision.

Nah that's off google images.

Same model though. The neck profile on the 57 replica is a bit fatter to be honest - the smaller radius means barre chords are mega-easy on the fingers/thumb, but you get used to it. The fretboard itself is not that fat though. Good for smaller fingers (which is kinda unfortunate because the neck is a bit fatter which kinda negates the benefit of the smaller fretboard...)

I was coming from an Ibanez 1570 with flat, thin neck, so it took a bit of getting used to, but the vintage pick-ups sound amazing!

Your fingers will grow over the next few years, in length and, more importantly, strength, so I wouldn't worry too much about the size of the neck. Before you know it, your fingers will be big enough to accommodate any neck profile.

Play some and get a feel for the sound you want, then pick an aesthetic style you like. You can always change the pups out for something else once you get 'your' guitar

Very true. I was also gonna go for the 3 tone sunburst though... I like it better although its a 60s one.

Here's mine:

'Pups' = pickups mate.

I've thought about changing the pups for something more modern, but all I need to do is plug her into a clean channel on a good amp and I feel silly for even thinking it....

Brilliant guitar, great find.
