A viewing of The Shawshank Redemption is not complete without simultaneously eating official Shawshank Redemption mulberry cheesecake. As endorsed by Brian Libby.
rated as my favorite movie ever. even better, I got to watch it in an R.E lesson at school! (mixed race school which focused more on morals and human behavior than actual religious studies)
Certainly top end of Hollywood but outclassed by non-Hollywood films such as Das Boot and Lives of Others.
For some reason I'm finding hollywood films less and less interesting. Perhaps is the shallowness of the film caused by the drive for financial success, or perhaps part american culture.. may be I'm getting old (and slightly drunk!).
It's one of the greatest films ever made, certainly the best big film of the past 20 or so years. There are a few films I'd choose to watch rather than it but there aren't many better than it. It's probably Tim Robbins' best role and Morgan Freeman supplies his usual quality and gravitas, in fact I'm not sure that there is a bad performance in the whole film and considering it isn't a short film that's an achievement in itself.
Great book and love the film. I think that Morgan Freeman's narrative really holds it all together extremely well and I absolutely love the ending - every time I watch it.
I think it says for what I thought of it when the only parts I can remember are the music bit and the twist. Boring, the sort of film where I was waiting for the ending.
