Hello folks

I've been lookin at this bundle: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=BU-003-OB

And I'm just wondering if I should pounce on this now, or wait a few weeks?

A while ago it was a 'This week only..' offer and it was around £540, then the offer period ended and soon after it shot up to £620. Now it's on special offer again for £600.

I'm just wondering what effect the release of the new i7s and i5s might have on this bundle - is it likely to go up? In which case I should get it now. I don't mind waiting a few weeks though if the price is likely to drop. But at the same time I don't want this bundle to be suddenly discontinued now that a host of newer components are out - I don't want to completely miss out!

What do you reckon?

It mainly depends on what you're gonna be doing on the computer, for gaming only it definitely isn't worth it as you could just get an i5 & overclock it for similar gaming performance.
However, if you do CPU intensive tasks like encoding & rendering i would probably say it's worth pouncing on when you have the chance.

Well the way I see it, if you buy that you're guaranteed a 4ghz chip, so you know if you clock it a bit lower it'll last an age, we also have no idea how well the 930 D0 will clock, even if it is a bit cheaper

I've got that bundle and can only say good things about it. I've loved every minute of using it.

I'd say go for it.

Thanks for the quick replies.
The question is not so much whether or not to go for these or other components - I definitely want these components! I'm just wondering what the pricing trend is likely to be over the next few weeks/months. Are they ever likely to get as low as £540 again, like they were a few weeks ago?
I'll be using the machine for music production - orchestral mock-ups using sample based VST orchestras. The i7 920 has proved very successful at this. I'll also probably be wanting to upgrade to 12gb RAM, I know that might compromise the overclock potential but stability is more important for me than top speed. How flexible are Overclockers with customising these bundles, are they likely to be ok with me adding 6gb or would this disqualify me from the base special offer price? (Obviously I'd expect to pay whatever the extra 6gb is worth) Also what if I wanted the overclock to be for example on 3.2ghz (To allow for the 12gb RAM total) even though that is not one of the overclock options in the bundle.
Thanks

Effbee, I have looked into pricing the components individually, and it would probably be a bit cheaper. But I'd prefer knowing that my base components of CPU, motherboard, and RAM had been professionally tested before it got to me!

Yeah, but as I said I'd prefer the peace of mind of knowing someone had tested all these components together before sending them out.
But what about the future pricing and the chance of flexibility on the part of OC that I asked about in post #6?
Any more thoughts on these issues?
Thanks

They should do. Ring / webnote them. :)

I webnoted them and I got a reply saying they could do that bundle with the additional 6gb RAM, a lower overclock of around 3.4ghz... but it would cost £729.98.
I dont quite understand that as the basic bundle costs £599.99 and 6gb of Corsair XMS3 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 (1600MHz) Tri-Channel (TR3X6G1600C9) costs £109.99.
Why so expensive? Especially considering the lower clock.
I've queried this with them... see what they say.

Sorry for the semi-thread-jack, but how easy would it be to slighty 'down-clock' to, say, 3.6 Ghz?
I've never clocked a machine before :)

Thanks.

Hmm.... fair enough.
So what if I bought the package as is... but maybe asked them to clock it no higher than say 3.4 - 3.6 and then bought the extra 6gb RAM seperately. How difficult at that clock speed would it be to get the system running stable with the full 12gb? - I suppose if need be I could remove the overclock completely.
In the BIOS profile options that Overclockers does how many profiles do they store? Is it just the requested overclock, and stock speed? Or are there more intermediate options? (Sorry if I've misunderstood the whole 'profiles' thing)
Also I'm suddenly wondering if there might be problems fitting a full 12gb of RAM on the UD5 mobo if it has the big Noctua cpu cooler fitted? Has anyone managed this?

Thanks

Bumping cos I'm very unsure of this...
Is it possible to fit a full 12gb of RAM into a Gigabyte UD5 mobo, if the Noctua NH U12P cpu cooler is fitted?
Thanks folks.

Looking at the pics of mine i'd say you will get a stick in the nearest bank to the CPU cooler.....just.

Thanks for the replies folks
I would definitely prefer 12gb over 6gb, I create a lot of orchestral music using VSTs and the vast amount of high quality samples that constitute a orchestral VST library east up RAM with frightening voracity - so the more the better.
Thanks for that pic V_R. Yeah, looks like it might just fit!
Do you think, if I lowered the over clock in the bundle to around 3ghz, I'd have trouble getting everything stable with 12gb?
