New Guitar

Ok so teles are out of the question for me then lol. Country sux balls!

Just because Teles are popular for country, doesn't mean you can't use them for anything else. Loads of rock and indie bands use them. In fact I'm sure I heard somewhere that Hendrix recorded Purple Haze on one...

I'm not saying you should get a Tele though. Even though I don't particularly like them, a Strat would probably be better for what you want, but that depends on what YOU like. And you'll only really know by playing some!

:)

Well like i say i dont like the shape so can we please go off the tele subject. Was also looking for an amp over 50 watts Saw a laney 65 watt on GAK for £164 ( i think ) But it has to be below 175. When i get my amp i might upload some vids to my youtube channel aswell ( My name is omgnonamesforme, dont laugh i couldnt think of anything else that wasnt taken )

Dont listen to indie ( or very little ) but still i just like the shape of strats too i mean you wouldnt want to get a guitar you absolutely hate ( in terms of looks )

Of course not.

It seems quite clear that you want a Strat of some kind. Strat style guitars are everywhere, Fender have even tried to license the body shape since it's become so popular in the past 50 years. My point is is there are many guitars by manufacturers other than Fender who use the same body style, but with far more variations in hardware (bridge, electronics) and woods.

You should definitely go to some guitar shops, tell them the music you're into, the guitarists you like, let them know you're serious about buying a guitar (music shops, guitar shops in particular can sometimes get very tetchy about people trying their instruments, especially if you're young unfortunately), a good employee will give you advice and let you try the guitars in your budget. Since you seem to be open to a lot of different models I really think this is your best bet.

Edit:

So you're after an amp now as well? This is beginning to give me a headache :o :p

Is Denmark street a good place to start? Thats where i got my guitar, there was this annoying 13 year old jordy maggot working in the shop :P he was very helpful though.

I don't know anything about Denmark street I'm afraid.

I would go into as many shops as you can. The guitars are what are important at the end of the day. If the shop has a good selection and they're in good condition, then that's all you need really. It's obviously a bonus if the staff are friendly and professional, as they'll make the process much more pleasurable, it also helps if you have to bring the guitar back for any maintenance as well, but hopefully not. I'm sure your parents will be able to tell if the shop seems dodgy :)

Yeah well denmark street has literally every shop is a musical instrument shop and it is in London and its a really famous street so ill doubt theyll be dodgy

pups? Yeah jazzmasters are cool but im not into jazz so theyre useless to me. They still look nice though.

Jazzmaster's aren't made for jazz. :p

They have a unique sound, but they're mostly known for noise rock and shoegaze. Sonic Youth, My Bloody Valentine, Dinosaur Jr, etc all used them and they all had brilliant guitar tones. They have single coils (soapbars like P90s but not P90s) but sound very good distorted. Plus they have, in my option, the most comfortable shaped body to play and lots of tonal options with all the switches.

WELL WHY DO THEY CALL IT A JAZZMASTER THEN!!!???? lol. Only band ive heard out of them is My bloody valentine and i dont like metally kind of music i like original rock e.g. hendrix, clapton and others. i also like reggae. My older brother ( Cr0fty on OCuK ) has a vintage les paul junior with 2 P90s are they any good guitars ( juniors )?

Please don't confuse My Bloody Valentine with Bullet For My Valentine. It hurts. :(

MBV is far from metal.

My Bloody Valentine

I'm not a fan of Vintage guitars at all. Every one I've played has felt really cheap. I've heard some good reviews though so it might've just been the ones I tried.

So yeah i am ( probably ) going to go for the stratocaster, im not sure if i should go for the 60s or 50s one, i like the look of the 50s one better but then i loooove the 3 tone sunburst and olympic white. By the way is there any sound difference between the 60s and 50s ones?

Getting the blues out of the guitar is more in the fingers than the pickups mate.

There will be subtle differences between the 2 sets of pups in the 50's and 60's models, but only really noticeable through a clean channel on a really good amp. (like a twin reverb....)

Again, just play a bunch of 50's and 60's strats and decide what sound you like best, you can always change out the pickups later if you want to refine your sound.
