*** Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 5870 Vapor-X 1024MB GDDR5 @ £378.99 inc VAT ***

Its title as fastest consumer GPU in the world is completely irrelevant.

Its performance doesn't justify its cost, compare it to 2 4870s in crossfire, which, while they aren't DX11, represent far better value for money.

Even the 5850 is far better value, it costs 2/3rds the cost of the 5870 but gives about 80-85% performance of a 5870.

No-one ever buys the top performing enthusiast part for VFM :D

I knew the 5850 was by far the better bang for the buck but having waited since launch of my old 512MB 4870 to upgrade I wanted to treat myself to the best.

I suppose that's the case, but then in response to that, the 4870X2 was value for money compared to the 4870.

Ordered of these cards as soon as I saw it listed. I also ordered another item that I notice that is low on stock so will have OcUK already allocated that item to my order or will they only do that when the card comes into stock? Don't want a small item interfering with the delivery of card, obviously assuming I have been lucky enough to get one of course.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Can it guys, I'm sure OcUK has got the best deal possible regarding this item. Sapphire might have hiked the price due to the exclusivity of the cooler etc. No more moaning about the price, either buy or not it's your choice :)

I am also in the market for a new gfx card, think I will wait till the new NV cards come out tho as ATI prices are now getting just as silly.

thats a crazy price :S even if it was the 2GB model i could only just about justify it, but no way for a 1GB model. its nuts!! know its not ocuk's fault though, but sheesh!! ><

Agreed, its possible to buy the normal 5870 for £100 cheaper!

yeah, exactly!!! i payed £300 for my sapphire and that was still through the nose. was expensive at £300. couldnt find one at £280 like people seem to be buying them at =[ £380 for the vapor-x....extortion to the max

I'd hope that the Vapor-X cooler gives a good bit more overclocking potential, otherwise it's a 20% price premium for a 3% performance increase.

On the other hand, it should run nice and quietly.

Yes but some people don't give thought-out replies & just **** off OcUK for doing their jobs! I won't stand for that full stop.

I have to agree here, you do see a lot of people complaining about prices here, making it look as if OCUk are to blame.

We are in the position, that the dollar affects the price of computer hardware a lot. OCUk are hardly going to set out to rip us off, are they now?

Its not OCuk fault its sapphire for monking the price a bit

yes it is, but have paitiants it will go down in price. or you get the stock one
