I'm currently in the process of selecting all the components for my new build but I don't know the difference between SATA and IDE dvd reader writers! Which one do I go for?

SATA!

Faster and don't have to pee about with jumpers on the back of the drive (as there are none).
Also the cables are MUCH thinner. Rounded IDE cables are better than normal ones but sata ones beat them every time.

Sata here too.

Its quicker and tidier as well. If you have the option to choose then I would only consider Sata personally.

Ever heard of rounded IDE cables? LOL

They're still huge in comparison to SATA cables. You can't "round" the 4ft wide IDE connector either and most IDE cables have a connector in the middle of the ribbon.

I finally got a SATA DVD drive a few weeks ago. Made my new cable management so much neater! [ripping out the Front IO audio header cables and 3 USB header cables I never used also helped!]
