Adobe is annoyed with Apple !

The problem is that flash takes a hideous amount of processing power for very little gain (adverts etc). Processing power equates to battery life. Something you can see if you've got activity monitor open.

All the flash/animated web pages are also bad for the planet as the additional power is then multiplied by so many users. One of my pet hates is inefficient programming that wastes processing power (hence electrical power).

Also the number of crashes that I have due to adobe's safari plugin is ridiculous leading to a long term memory leak. I'd suggest that Apple want them to be responsible and fix that first!

I can see this from both sides:

Apple: Flash is a god-awful CPU hog no matter the platform (although it does seem worse on Mac OS X). Having all those lovely Flash banner ads is sure to "enhance" the Mobile Safari experience...

Adobe: Flash is everywhere and by not having it in the iPhone you are limiting the functionality of its browser.

The only thing Flash is good for is delivering video (and annoying Flash games, of course) and HTML 5 will take care of that.

Adobe are just trying to get some PR and it will probably backfire.

... ho-kay - i'm assuming then that you don't have an iPhone since it is one of the most power hungry phones on the market?

surely someone that bothered with power consumption that the efficiency of code comes into question would have a nice old Nokia 6310 yeah?

out of interest? do you drive?

either way, totally agree inefficient code is a bad bad thing - i'm just taking the micky cuz of your comment that it is bad for the planet :p

Yes I have an iPhone, and by running crap on it the result would need a cord to power it. Oddly my iPhone can last four days (!).

Well that doesn't meet my requirements :p

Yes, however a tank of diesel lasts a couple of months.

I know :p :D

I hate sites with flash, but I also hate how Apple refuses to budge.

I did LOL when I saw the story on engadget. So childish..

To be honest, I am rarely troubled with the lack of flash on my iPhone. When there is that case it can always wait until I am at a computer. There's no rush and I wouldn't really like my iPhone battery life to lessen even more (it's quite bad as it is!) just so I can see that I've won a free prize on various websites.

Flash is kinda cool but by god its screwy. There are large games which run on flash and invariably they crash after a while or slow down to such a degree you need to restart it.

Flash adverts should be banned. They sometimes freeze the explorer I'm using for several seconds before allowing it to tab to another tab or close the tab.

HTML5 will be cool, but on the web as a whole, I think it'll be a long time before Flash, even as just a video player, will be dislodged.

So many sites and services are invested in it and all mainstream browsers handle it.
