Ive just been banned from live!!

really does sound like the OPs console was maybe modded without him knowing ? a refurb or 2nd hand ? or maybe hes been racist/abusive on chat ?

edit-lol just seen the racism in his gamertag. wooopsy. you might be able to get them to let you off mind. use clerks2 as an example...

i dont see why they only do live bans for piracy mind . they should nuke the whole console for it !

Does anyone know anyone with a flashed drive, who goes online, who did not get banned? Have they wiped out all offenders in 1 batch? Seems hard to believe (only in the sense if they can do this now, why haven't they done it before?).

It is a racial slur, from what Ive read though it seems as though you'd be forced to change it if that were the problem :confused:.

A guy on my friends list has been playing MW2 since the weekend! He defo got past the ban wave that occured on the 30th after playing Forza 3 and Dragon Age.

Hope you get it sorted or its a temp ban, looking at threads last week on GAF it seems there isnt much you can do. They will not overturn or listen to you now, at least this was the case over in the US, perhaps in the UK the T&Cs are different as it does seem extremely harsh if you havent done anything wrong. I do like the way MS dont ban your gamer tag so you can use it fine on another 360, clever thinking that.

It won't be that, if it were down to that it would be a gamertag/live account ban, not a console ban. His Live account will still be active if he signed in on another console. To repeat what I said a few posts above:

Don't be ridiculous. They are within their rights to ban the console from live as it breaks their terms and conditions, but they cannot destroy a piece of property that you paid for and own, no matter how you are using it.

If it makes you happier, not only does the banned console lose the ability to connect to live, they also disable install to HDD functionality, and also any save games are locked to the banned console, they won't work on any other console.

Have you used any modifications on your Xbox? Not just one's allowing you to play pirate games but any 3rd party accessories such as coolers and all that jazz.

My mate has a modded console and he is still on live. He has started to avoid playing the latest games before release though, so he has only just started with Forza 3, I wouldn't be surprised if he is waiting til release day to play MW2.

I know of 4 on my friends list who have modded consoles and they are still able to sign on etc. Although like anticonscience has said they generally only play games when they are released. One of them was playing FIFA 10 about a week before it came out but nothing has happened to him.
 
Maybe they've stockpiled data of people who've played games suspiciously early, sat on it, then got all the bans done in a few sweeps?
Could be that you played a game early 6 months ago and they picked up on it, but haven't done anything until now?
If they refuse to re-connect your console, tell then you're going to ask your credit card company to retrive the payment for the live sub, as they are not delivering the service you paid for and will not supply a specific enough reason to justify it.

iirc MGC only updates when you visit the page, visit it again in a bit and it'll have updated.
 
Guilty till proven innocent?

I can't believe they do this, just a massive issue for people who are legitmate customers and pay a lot of money for their products and services. I bet when you call they don't apologise, don't get any compensation and are treated like a criminal.
 
Threads like this worry me. I legitimately get games early to review, and I do worry sometimes that MS will make a mistake and ban me for playing games pre-release. I've been told people playing legit promo copies like I do will be fine, but it's still a worry when seemingly innocent people get banned for no reason.
