**The Dragon Age Origins Thread **

Im so jealous of everyone in here that has it,Did'nt get my copy at all today, when I went to my local gamestop it was sold out :'(,gonna have to go into the city tomorrow to see if game or gamestop have it bummer anyway:-(

I would advise all to do the shale quest asap if you have the DLC... he's one mighty fine piece of beefcake to have in your group. Hard to build rep with him tho as everything I say seems to **** him off!

After finding out about this game only yesterday, ( i know i know i live in a cave), i decided to buy the CE version from my local game store, then downloaded Wardens Keep.
I have played about 2 hours now and all i can say is about time too.
I am a fan of BG, and i have been waiting for a game as good, this may be it.

This is a proper RPG.

Redcliffe? I thought Redridge too originally - that was a zone in WoW :p.

BTW - without spoiling anything - the dream sequence in Redcliffe that youre coming too is an incredible piece of story telling.

Yep just realised what I did there, still trying to forget WoW!

That dream sequence was amazing by the way, I haven't seen something so original in a game for a long while, and the way it effects the different characters in different ways is really interesting. I can't travel to lothering now though which is worrying... :(

This is the first game that I have played where I have been interested in the cut scenes and the story. Well done Bioware!! THe voice acting is brilliant.
Can't figure out if Alister is funny or annoying yet.

Odd - I stopped partying him soon after freeing him because he dies so bloody much :\. Mind you, now I have a healer he might be useful again..

Archery seems a bit underpowered.

Thinking of restarting with a different char, any recommendations?

An archer can become awsome in this game.

But i would choose mage because i have done, and i always do.

Just love casting spells.

Just add to willpower and magic when creating your character, and you are ready to go.

I am just about to restart again, as a mage again, because i am going to change my starting skills and spells.

It usually takes one or two goes just to work things out.

It's all about selecting the right skills and talents for your character, and getting the right party together.

Argh... doing the Wardens Keep quest, and without giving any spoilers let me just say WTF at the bloody friendly fire from that npc making what I presume to be one of the final batteles near impossible. I think I'll just have to keep replaying until the npc decides not to fatally injure my whole party.

I'm not entirely sure Mage isn't the only decent option, from what I can see early characters mean as a soldier type you really want to go two handed or dual wield as one of your friendlies is specced as sword/shield already, seems silly to have the same, however not knowing that I'd dumped points into a defence class that wasn't doing much damage. I went archer redid the intro(with one short slightly different bit) and found archers seem woefully underpowered. Playing around as morogan as a mage I felt like there was some power but again she's got a specific spec thats lacking in area's.

I think I'm going to start a 3rd time now, as a mage focusing on damage and healing as everything else seems easily covered. I really wish they'd given you a class but let you level your companians from the ground up as you see fit.

Heavy dps/heal mage, rogue dual weild spec and a soldier set for dps seem like the best options. Just a shame I've had to start over twice with my favourite types of characters, and both feel useless in the group or/and completely underpowered :(

Is there a button to bypass speach as I have to do a large section again involving lots of talking :(

Escape definately works, only skips one line, sometimes you'll need to hit it several times before you get an option or cutscene ends.

I'm so very impressed with this game so far. It does get very hard, especially without a healer, but seeing how my mage burns through her mana I don't know if healers will be very useful - potion maker seems a better aspect right now.

Has anyone worked out the XP? I'll confess I haven't been taking much note - but the XP gain seems to be different across the party..?
