5870 with a Q6600

New motherboard has gone in and straight up to 3Ghz and been running prime torture test for about 30 mins and top temp on the CPU is 52C

Lef the board voltages to auto for the mo and cpu-z reports 1.424v for the core voltage

Will leave it over night and review the Core Temp CSV file in the morning.

Need to check the BIOS for updates and fit my remaining disks.

Very nice board.

Also finally opened my Windows 7 Pro and that is install - 64bit

Ran it over night with the door closed (v warm room in the morning) mid 60Cs

Just ran it again for a few hours with how the room normally is and top temp was 59c

I'll upload the csv file from core temp later

Core Temp reports - 1.3250v for the VID

I'd get that voltage down if you can though, even a B3 should be able to do 3 on less than that unless it's an absolute ******* of a chip.

Left it on auto at the moment to see how stable it is. Haven't had a single lockup unlike before.

Just need to get the other drives in and Steam re-installed.

Interesting thread.

I have a Go Stepping Q6600 running at 3.2 GHz 24/7 was at 3.4 GHz but had one or two flaky moments, I think due to me running 4 x 1Gig sticks of Ballistix.

My 3870x 2 Card is feeling the strain, can't really run things at my Monitor native rez (Dell Ultrasharp 2407WFP Rev A04) 1900 x 1200 so I run lower than that.
Wanting to upgrade the Gfx card only I think as a Quad core is plenty for what we have on offer today, its all Gfx intensive...just wondering how much of a leap in performance I might see?

My Q6600 GO was easy to hit 3.2 gig but strange i found i have to set cpu multi to 8 and hit 400fsb mine seems to work better like that, have hit 3.3 and 3.4 but i get high temps than i want.

I have this cooler on it but i don't rate it really am convinced a Artic Cooling freezer 7 does a better job, i get high 60's when maxed out idle temps atm are between 32-38.

Put the P5k-E in today, got it running at 400x9 = 3.6ghz, at 1.45v, seems to be prime stable but temps are too high (73-75) - I lapped the cooler and I've still got a 6-7'c discrepency between the cores, which is really annoying. Two are at 73-75 but the other two are at ~68, which would be fine.

Thinking of getting some new AS5 instead of using my 2 year old AS3, adding another fan to my TRUE for push-pull and hopefully that might see my temps drop <70'c, which I'd be fine with.

Anyone got any ideas why the difference between cores is so high? I've got the TRUE pretty flat (though not perfect - got bored - does it really have to be totally perfect? it was files out before!) and think I've done the AS right...

I'll get there!

I posted about this in another thread my cores having 6-7 degrees bewteen them and i was told this was normal for Quad Cores, for example mine are now 33/39/33/37.

wish i could run my q6600 at 3.0ghz atleast , anything over 2.70 and my sound crackles and suddenly drops then comes back

Good start :) like I said before as soon as you get a board that can really push a 65nm quad you soon run into temp issues with air cooling

Onboard audio? sounds like your NB is getting a little unstable and needs a voltage boost and/or additional cooling.
What board do you have?

Everything is in and stable and primed for about 12 hours.

What I'll do this week is look at the voltages etc.

Mike,

You should be able to lower the temps with a lower vcore, having said that you have a highish VID but my experience with a B3 is limited having a G0. I'll help ya out if you bring the kit into work :).

For infor, I managed to get a G0 on a Asus 680i to 3G with 1.252 vcore. Temps ideal 28-32 load upper to lower 60's.
