best car in insurance group 11 for under £2k?

just to let you all know for a 1.0 polo its around £1500 TPFT and a puma 1.7 is £1900 and a charaid gtti is about £1700 looking at them prices you should be able to see that im not paying a large ammount more for something thats a lot faster.

IMHO forget the turbo requirement, forget the barges and rep mobiles and get yourself something that is fun to throw around but not so powerful that you get yourself into trouble.

My 306 was great at this, fantastic fun but 75bhp kept me in check!

Exactly. You do not want something powerful as your fisrt car. You WILL crash it.

This :)

A 306 is a perfect 1st car, it has ABS, airbags and power steering! Ok this is all standard on new cars but you need to realise you are a new driver and are 18 you are bound to have a little crash or car park dings etc so a 'cheap' 306 is ideal! Something like;

That's a little extreme, but generally this is the case. :(

Only on the new ones...I had one that had no safety features, not PAS. :(

Has turbo innit!

You guys keep saying this, do you believe I will crash my Volvo soon too ? I'd like to think I won't, rather than assume I do.

There's a big difference between someone who buys something sensible for a first car like a Volvo, and someone who wants a "phat turbo innit" first car ;)

Admittedly, ''phat turbo innit" sounds like me, I'd probably buy a T4 if it was affordable for me.
But where is the line with ''sensible'' and ''insensible'' ?

But what I'm referring to is:
forget the barges and rep mobiles and get yourself something that is fun to throw around but not so powerful that you get yourself into trouble.

I have nearly twice the power, and it hardly feels that fast or anything. But I'd imagine a 306 would be even far slower, I can't see why anyone has to get something like that for a first car.

The OP isnt talking about big barges with decent engines, he's talking about little turbo hot hatches that encourage you to rag them everywhere....

Did you make a thread about speccing your first car with criteria like, must have a turbo, must be fast etc etc. Its just obvious how it will end.

Is this the same person that wanted an old porsche as their first car?

Those... are fantasic, get some Cycolnes and you've got a brillaint first car

First time I’ve seen a white 306 like that it would look ace with some cyclone alloys on :D Shame the prices for the second hand market has shot up as there was a bucket load of cheap 306s on piston heads and auto trader they seem to fetch excellent money now do decent well looked after 306s.

You guys have forgot :D:eek: ?

I was the guy who posted spec me a 140 mph ( or something in that region) car 2 years ago :p. Because I wanted to race down the autobahn at those speeds and have track days etcetc :p.

Its common sense - you dont even need statistics to prove it. The type of 18 year old who thinks a fast car is a good idea will normally be pretty cocky/over confident and wanting to show off.

Combine that with a lack of driving skill/experience and you've got a crash coming - sadly, he'll be reading this thinking I'm being boring, I don't know him blah blah blah - most won't learn until it's too late unfortunately :(

Actually, I'm scared to go too fast through corners and through build up area's ( instructor let me drive through many really rubbish (to drive through) neighborhoods and I'm kind of always in the fear now that some car or cyclist or whatever will pop up from somewhere without me seeing them like they often did in my lessons ).
But, on long straights, I do drive way too fast sometimes.

As for losing control, the chance isn't that big in my car, if my foot is too heavy in a corner my traction control kicks in, if I brake too hard anywhere my ABS kicks in...

*Raises his hand to being one of these people*

I learnt from my mistakes. :)
