Ultimate Steals?

Hey all

Being a uni student i'm eligible for the ultimate steal offer on Windows 7. Given that i'm running xp64 on my main rig, naturally I'll want to upgrade that first, but I also have a decent Samsung laptop that ideally I'd also like to put the same addition on.

Is it possible to do this with the same license?

i dont think so, its normally 1 license installed at a time.

Lame. Is this the way its been with Vista as well? Its odd because I did the same offer on MS Office a year ago, and thats allowed me to install it on both my desktop and laptop.

office home/student has 3 licenses i think or at least there are version that do

Your already getting a cheap win 7 so no moaning

Its not the home student one, its the ultimate edition - hence the original title 'Ultimate Steal'

I'll moan as much as i please. Its a bit of a rip off considering that XP could be installed on as many as 5 Home pcs. Might just migrate to Sabayon permanently.

Err, no. According to the license XP could only be installed on one PC at a time. I'm guessing it may have only forced a reactivation after 5 installs.

I've formatted and re-installed my oem copy of XP64 undoubtedly more than 6 times on this pc alone. Ah well. I'll just stick 7 on this main rig and replace vista with Sabayon / Ubuntu koala on the laptop.

That's because the Retail license for office lets you do that if you read the EULA but the OS is different

if you've got access to MSDN:Academic Alliance then you can grab essentially 2 copies of win 7 pro off there. there's a 32bit and 64bit version, you get a different license number for each, but you can use each key on both 32 and 64bit

XP is a wonderful OS and one I'd love to just keep on running.. But I have a particularly flash laptop (for me) and I want something with a little more oomph.

Fraid not. MSDNAA is only available to Comp Sci / Medicine / Engi here.

are you saying that if i buy the licence for 64bit win7 prof and install it on my desktop, i can also use that same licence on my 32bit netbook?
