Drank the BEST cocktail ever over the weekend

Frankie Boyle: I walked into a bar one day and asked for a Lager and Lime. The bartender looked at me and grunted - "We don't do cocktails!"

That's not true, you can clearly tell how alcoholic something is by its taste.

I was being pedantic, but pure alcohol (ethanol) is tasteless. As said, there must be something else which make it taste 'strong'. Perhaps like how 'gas' is odourless, but has a smell added so that gas leaks can be more easily detected.

You clearly didn't drink the BEST cocktail, as it was not a Long Island Iced Tea.

Not quite. The best cocktail is a Long Island Ice Tea from Central Bar in Newquay, as it costs a mere £2.50. 6 shots of alcoholic goodness for cheaper than a pint. I'm lucky I remember.

I wonder what they throw in for an extra shot, can't see them doing 1/5th of all the whites to give you that bit extra :p.

Does Ethanol have a smell? Yes, then it will also have a taste. Not that you would want to drink it.

Pub in town in Nottm called Pit and Pendulum does a nice one called 'Pride' they do 7 different ones, each a deadly sin, all pretty yum.

I like a pretty pretty bang bang too!

According to what I've been told. Yes, it has a smell. No it doesn't have a taste. I also found that strange, that it can have a distinctive smell, and yet be described as tasteless.

Ethanol, also known as ethyl alcohol or grain alcohol, is a flammable, tasteless, colorless, mildly toxic chemical compound with a distinctive odor, one of the alcohols that is most often found in alcoholic beverages.

Pure ethanol is a tasteless liquid with a strong and distinctive odour that produces a characteristic heat-like sensation when brought into contact with the tongue or mucous membranes.

Admittedly a quick google will bring up sources that say the opposite. But I can't find any 'reliable' sites which talk about the 'taste' of pure alcohol.
