**HTC HD2 Thread**

This phone is already in the hands of a few lucky people. I'm suffering a severe case of e-penis envy!

That said, i'm not a fan of Manila/Sense 2.5 and would only buy this phone when, or if, the chefs at xda start releasing vanilla ROMs or versions that include the older and less demanding Sense 2.1. There's a huge developmental effort going on already in modifying this particular version of the software so even on a stock ROM i believe that people will be able to customise this phone however they see fit, whether it be flashing to custom ROMs or modifying the stock one.

The important thing to remember is that the hardware spec is good enough to make the phone usable whatever the end user decides to do with it. As for the critics of WM6.5, i prefer it over Android or any other OS that's currently available. Manila 2.1/2.5, spb mobile shell, Titanium, or whatever interface you decide to go with will do a decent enough job of keeping you away from the underlying OS to keep most critics happy.

Everyone has been looking for an 'iphone' killer. This is it imo.

Another good site to check out with loads of good vids of the HD2..http://pocketnow.com/

I was just about to order this phone on Vodaphone but am concerned about what Voda have done / taken away from its natural state. Not bought a new phone since the LG viewty so understandably tepid about getting another new release phone ;-) Getting it on T-Mobile is an option as they seem to leave things as they are, however their coverage isnt quite as good on the Isle of Wight.

Suggestions that Voda UK will have this in a few days
A little birdie just dropped us the above shot of the HTC HD2 in Vodafone UK's internal system, and it clearly points to a Nov. 13 launch. Frustrating, sure, that you have to wait seven more days for 4.3 inches of high-res, capacitive goodness (and we've mentioned the 1GHz Snapdragon processor once or twice, right?), but if that's what it takes, that's what it takes. Now, who's ready for some Windows Mobile 6.5 and Sense UI?

Well, i'm using 'my' upgrade options as a benchmark.

These are my options via the website (I'm on Flext 35 + Web n walk - haven't upgraded since 2006)

£312 for a butchered Touch Pro anyone? lol!

(granted - i'm sure i'll get different quotes when I call them, but i'm hoping they'll be VASTLY different from those ridiculous prices!)

I spoke to Vodafone about it on the phone, and was told it would be free on £35 a month contracts. But these are usually always 18 month contracts. That ties you into paying £630 over the 18 months. That more than covers the retail cost of a phone (I can imagine Vodafone maybe £200 out of it, maybe more).

I have however ordered mine via mobiles.co.uk, not via Vodafone, so I think I'm getting a plain HD2, and a Vodafone sim to go with it. Should be with me Thursday (hopefully) or Monday at the very latest. I can't wait!

Thats pretty steep for some of those phones but im sure if you haggle with them a bit then they might end up giving you most if not all of those phones for free...if not just tell them your leaving although i suspect that you probably dont spend that much so they wont be too concerned but id try anyways.

My dad rung me this morning to enquire about this phone..told him it looks pretty good but the fact it runs on Winmo means that i wouldnt touch it...but he quite likes Winmo as theres a lot of free apps for him to use....anyhow hes got some sort of deal with O2 where he pays £25 pm and the phone costs him £100...told him doesnt sound too bad but hes doing it through www.mobiles.co.uk.

Told him if he does get it then i want to have a play with it.

You should easily get £100 knocked off if you ring and threaten to cancel, I'd push for more too. I reckon £30 (for £35 contract) and a free phone over 18 months would be pretty likely if you push. :)

Just out of curiosity, how much are you expecting to pay under sim-only terms with Vodafone? Im thinking about this myself but their prices seem pretty nasty, looking at about £20 p/m for a semi-decent contract(300 min, unlimited text+internet).

The contract I'm getting is pretty expensive. £45 a month. 1200 minutes, unlimited texts and internet (also has unlimited landlines I think too). But I use all the minutes, so it's ok for me.

I just want the phone really. Haha. Also, via mobiles.co.uk, I'm getting 7 months cashback to give me 7 months half price line rental.

All in all, not too bad.

I got my last upgrade phone a MDA compact IV free on a £25 pm taffiff 200 mins 400 text inc unlimited internet, these phones were around £400 sim free, so shouldn't be that expensive I hope.

Ordered mine today, was trying hard to hold out for the N900 but this looks like a fun toy to, never had a WM device and only hope all the bashers arn't correct in their opinions of the OS.

Still, can go back I guess :D

Been waiting for this phone for ages, Vodafone should have it up for order today to :)

Quick question for those of you who have used Windows Mobile phones before.

Can you change the network mode like you can on other phones?
E.g set it to use GSM only, dual mode or UTMS?

Cheers.
