? I'm not sure what you mean, surely you're not suggesting they should sit on cards that are ready to ship and make money, just because nvidia's next gen is delayed ? that would just be daft.
Besides the 5970 is designed to take the performance crown unanimously, cos at the moment there are still people beating the "my GTX295 get 5fps more than the 5870" drum. The idea of releasing the 5970 is that ATI can say we are fastest, so ordinary joe's think I want an ATI card now and pop to the shops and get a 5750 and feel really happy they have the fastest GFX card in the world.
As for milking it, Christ knows they need to and why the hell not ?
Meh. People pay far to much attention to the average framerates, when comparing a GTX295 and a HD5870 folk should also look at the minimum framerates which 6 times out of 10 show a dual chip card have a much lower minimum framerate then a single GPU card.
This can be a royal pain in the back side when you playing driving games like GRID or Need for Speed Shift as the screen suddenly crawls along even though your doing 180mph then all of the sudden you get slingshot of acceleration just as you reach a bend. In other games it takes the form of stuttering which is an annoyance
