Leon Cupra TDI (2004) Talk to me...

Wife has a Leon albeit a lowly 90hp diesel and we use it to go back and for to Yorkshire to see her folks. Its about a 5 hour drive and to be honest I would prefer to go in something a little more spacious. Theres 2 and half of us and we tend to fill it quite easily.

I would prefer a medium sized saloon for that kind of annual mileage.

I have a leon for work. I don't find space to be an issue at all even on long journeys, but it's nowhere near the same as doing a journey in the X5. You come out the other end feeling like you've just had a long journey in the leon. I can't imagine what it'd be like in the 90bhp one which, according to the laws of hate and regret, will be an S, which is even more uncomfortable inside.

LOL, it is indeed an S but really no different than any other leon in comfort stakes other than seats.

If you've ever used cruise and do a lot of motorway miles, it's definatley an essential requirement.

Think of all those long 50mph roadwork zones with spec cameras. 50mph, cruise, sit back and relax.

I have to admit, i use cruise control all the time. Mine broke on me a while back and you dont realise how much you use it until its gone! I couldnt be without it now...

be warned, volvos aren't particularly exciting cars to drive :p
i know someone who's got a V70 D5 and it's been nothing but trouble, and servicing is rather expensive.

i'd get a 530D, you know what you're going to get

unless you really want a Sport, this SE has good spec, albeit in old man colours with the worst wheels ever
comfort seats are probably worth it though. much rather be in those than sports seats for high motorway miles

Lol, sometimes I wonder if people post just to argue with Fox sometimes....

Cruise is definitely an essential option if you're spending a lot of time on motorways etc - although with one caveat.. it needs to be good cruise control.

I've owned 2 cars with cruise, my current Mondeo and my old Seat Toledo. In the Seat I could set the speed and it would be maintained almost perfectly regardless of incline. The only time it deviated was down steep slopes. I used it all the time.

However, in the Mondeo, the system is nowhere near as good (or broken, if anyone can point out why!) - on a level road it's fine, but when you get to a small downwards slope, the speed builds by about 5 or 10mph until the system realises and cuts back. Likewise, when you get to an uphill slope, it slows down a fair bit before realising and accellerating again. Very annoying, so I barely use it

I have an 04 Leon cupra TDI and do 19k a year commute.

Its a fantastic car to drive all that way in. Its comfortable, good looking, sound system is good, plenty of room.

I always get 500 - 530 miles from a tank and thats not driving miss Daisy.

I would recommend one. I so want it remapped but i simply cant afford it at the moment. Theres plenty of power and torque to deal with anything too.

Not bothered about not having cruise control tbh. The throttle pedal has enough resistance to act as a fotrest to maintain a constant speed so no problems with a tired leg!

It's nice to have, but if I found a car perfect in every other way but it didn't have cruise, it wouldn't put me off buying.

It would if you'd got used to having cruise. It's one of those things you don't really get until you've begun to rely on it. Then you wouldn't want to not have it.

Remember cruise is pretty simple to retrofit on a lot of cars - in the Leon you just need to replace the stalk

You're welcome to have a nosey round mine if you want Pete?

The only thing that went wrong with mine has been a coil pack iirc. But they're a common problem area.

Cruise control is a godsend, use mine all the time - highly recommended.

I can also recommend piperRS exhausts ;)

If you want a look/drive just give us a bell as I'm in boro for uni most days :)

I have it atm, and I use it - I just think I could live without it. It's nice to have, but that's about where it ends for me. :)
