**The Dragon Age Origins Thread **

I do like this game but it does make me slightly concerned for BioWare's forth coming BioWare Star Wars mmo. For two reason: balance and itemization.

Mages are totally OP. They get healing, CC, DPS and AoE. While archers get well nothing much. Warriors are ok as dps.

On the other hand mage loot is almost nonexistent. While warriors get all the best suff. All the DLC items are warrior only.

Both things aren't too much of a problem for a single player game but if their MMO the same, its going to cause serious problems.

Yeh but you can get away with it a bit more, plus they will have a very long and big beta to sort it out

I wouldn't worry too much about balance issues in terms of the MMO, DA:O is a single player game and some inconsistancies in the class balance, whilst maybe annoying, isn't exactly going to cause problems.

It will more likely be based around gear and abilities from their KOTOR games anyway and there was plenty of loot for everyone there. I can't really remember the different "class" balances but I don't remember any huge variations in effectiveness.

Bioware have made some of my favourite games and bar the minor quibble I have no worries with regards to their MMO, I have faith in them as a developer :).

Not to say that they couldn't drop the ball here but their track record makes it seem unlikely.

Does anyone else fine this - I'm playing it on normal and every single boss takes me several attempts currently stuck with the Elves & Wolves, the people who can defeat them first time on the hardest setting must be insanely good!

LOTS of pausing, LOOOOOOOOOOOOOTS :(
You realy need to plan, move and command your party yourself quit a lot so mages and other squishys stay out the way and do there jobs.
Oh and take plenty of pots, LOTS ;)
When I went to do the Elves bit I had to leave and come back as I ran out :o

But on the negative side the PC version was done months ago. It was kept back so they could have a simialtanoues release with the console version but they still didn't fix these things.

Mages are definately where its at - as mentioned previously, 3 mages (Wynne, Morri and yourself plus tank) would be unstoppable I would have thought.

If your an archer, get Arrow of Slaying, and it all falls into place ;) One shot pretty much any basic/white enemy, my biggest hit so far has been 370...

1 Spirit Healer 1 Arcane Warrior (me) 1 ....Morrigan whatever she is (Mostly Tribal/Entropy) 1 Templar/Champion just gets better and better.

Now Wynne has all Spirit Healer spells, people rarely die.

Basic tactic is send Alistar in, then Area of Effect spell the bejebus out of everything (Grease + set it on fire, earth quake, send Morrigan is to Cone of Cold (followed by Stonefist on deadliest enemy for chance to shatter) then Forcefield Alistar followed by Crushing Prison to create a Shockwave)

Took down my first high dragon yesterday as well (first attempt!) loot surprisingly mediocre - and no gold! :( Got some amazing screen shot of my character doing the killing blow animations - Juggernaught Armour Set + Sword/Dagger + Blood Splatter + Acrobatic action = Win.

Killed a small dragon that dropped 20 Gold somewhere before but it wasn't that hard, was only as big as a drake.

Awesome game.

There are plenty of them around, but I think you need to post those screenies.

I started with the Dalish Elf one, but then switched to human noble. The dungeon in the elf one was a good start, but I didn't like the elves themselves at all. It's like they wanted them to be like The Witcher's elves, but didn't have the guts to carry it through.

Just trying to install this and i keep getting CRC errors..? I have tried copying the disc to the HDD but still the same error..

Anyone have any ideas

Cheers

CRC is a cyclic redundancy check error, basically means it can't read your DVD. You could try giving it a wipe or using a different drive, but you'll probably have to get it replaced to be honest.

Agreed, that's a bit of a bummer.

No chance of getting it downloaded?

Since you already have the cd-key you're sorted, you just need the actual game files.

Just tried putting my cd key into the EA downloader but it tells me nothing is available. ? I have an external dvd-r drive in the cuboard somewhere going to dig that out and give it a try. Bought the game from an online retailer so getting a replacement is going to be a pain.

Its weird as my mass effect digital download from the EA downloader does exactly the same thing.

Not sure EA like me.. :(

Pitty you can't actually be an evil bugger.

You can dabble a bit in it, but overall you're a goody two-shoes.

Can you elaborate a bit? I asked about playing as a bad guy on the previous page. Is goody goody play heavily restrictive and forced? I'm interesting in purchasing DA, but only if I can play as a dark character without missing out on content.

You can yes, but not as evil as like in the likes of baldur's gate.

You can be a right tit and *******, but in the end you end up a hero for good. sadly.

I tried my best to be evil half way through my first play through, it's very fun actually.

But later on it slowly turns you good anyway.

It's the price you pay for being a Grey Warden and such, you look out for the greater good, so all the evil you did up till then was a neccessary evil for the greater good.

Its more a "jerk" option then evil. Given the story line being evil doesn't really fit.

Yeah, the whole story is basically you sacrificing your previous life to be a Grey Warden, who's job it is to protect from the bad guys.

The leeway comes in the whole 'end justifies the means' approach, and there's plenty of evidence in the game of wardens who did just that, but you'll still end up the hero.

I doubt you'd actually miss any content through evil choices though. What you are doing is missing the RPG of the year by prevaricating ;)

Yes they're aren't diverging storylines or anything, the content ends up being the same whether you like to attack instead of talking.

Being 'evil' is just good for seeing some of your companions reactions :)
