Having been asked, not very politely,to leave since we had only bought two drinks upon entering it got me wondering. Usually me and her go there quite regular but it had been 3 weeks since we were last in. Also I always end up having ~4 pints and buying her cola since she doesn't drink.

Sooooo we go and end up having some serious chat,I'm laying off drink a bit due to money and the quiz was on in the other section so CBA going through to the bar. End up being it was only one round within 3 hours or so.

I agree that at the end of the day it's a business but we go 2 times a week and do usually buy drink and sometimes even food,it wasn't busy and there were seats around the place. I don't see the problem.

So how often must you purchase a drink from the bar to be allowed to sit in a pub?

I'm not a drinker / go to the pub kind of person myself but basically I would imagine that it's up to the pub really.

I think they can refuse to serve / toss you out whenever they want. Someone feel free to correct me though, I'm quite possibly wrong!

Went to pub bought some drinks but never bought any more in 3 hours due to other reasons. Then we get told off and ask to leave. Usually I drink quite a few when I go and order food aswell which seems to mean **** all.

The person who asked you to leave might have just had a problem, if you went to the manager and explained the situation they would probably see your point of view, especially considering the place wasn't busy.

It would certainly put me off going there again if it happened to me.

To be honest I'm quite impressed you can make a drink last for 3 hours :p

As I said, it's not a pub worth going to if that's how they treat a regular. Sounds like some Weatherspoons crap.

Well that's what I said to the gf she was quite annoyed. She has been going there for something like 2 years. The main bar was busy due to the quiz but we were sitting in the back bit which only had us + another couple.

Considering how I was feeling I would probably only really had another pint anyway but we had to 'talk' and it never happened. We won't be going back now so that's a loss of us + friends groups that go there before a club going somewhere else.

It's not a wetherspoons place but one of two bars that play 'rock music'. We will now go to the other.

Had he said look I know you are regular-ish and you do usually buy drink and suggested maybe next time to buy more I would have been like aye ok no bother. But walking up saying it's a business not a 'something' bla bla bla then walking off was a bit crap.

Haven't experienced this myself nor have i heard of it happening, swearing and farting yes staying sober no lol.

Name and shame! (As i'm quite local to you so being nosy :P)

I might be putting 2 and 2 together and making 5 here but I think this is why people sit in Starbucks all day and could be one reason why pubs have been losing trade for years. Yes the smoking ban hasn't helped but they've been shutting down in huge numbers for years, while coffee houses have been flourishing.

Maybe it's time for a change of surroundings :p

I drink in the solid rock in glasgow a lot (rock/metal pub on hope street) and I've never been booted for not drinking the few times i've been there and hardly drank. Then again when I am there normally i end off guttered so I'm just smoothing the curve out haha

Your place doesn't seem worthwhile going to

[edit] It's not rufus is it?

It's to stop homeless people buying a blackcurrant and soda and living in the pub all day :p

this may or may not be true..

Bang on. We actually met at solid but people she didnt want to speak to were in so went up there. In solid they leave you be even if you sit downstairs.

Rufus is a terrible place, I would never have thought they'd have chucked out for not drinking though, I thought they had the same owners as the solid :O
Stick to the solid, I lurk downstairs most of the time too it's great!

Depends... if it was busy and they wanted to free up some space then I can understand... if it wasn't that busy with plenty of spare seats then I'd say it's somewhat uncalled for.

I could totally understand if it was busy. The back bit we sit in wasn't even half full. If anything it's better if people make it look busy :S

You probably know my Gf if you are a regular solid punter. She seems to know everybody lol.

your post started so strangely i didn't even get what you are talking about?

I thought it was going to turn into a joke or a "you're moving with your Aunty and Uncle in Bel-air".

But yeh, sounds like they were just being ****s for the sake of it. Or maybe it was just a jobsworth?

Agreed if it was not busy, it's actually worse for business because the place looks empty - far better to have someone nursing a pint reading the paper than a ghost town..

If I was the person and I knew you were in for a longer time I may ask you to move to the window to attract additional custom with the offer of an additional 1/2 top up..
