Hello

We're currently running one car between the two of us and I am cycling to work (~20 minutes). However I'd like a car for those days when I just can't be bummed and want to drive to work (five minute commute), as well as for some fun at the weekend.

I have a car allowance that I will partly use to pay for the car, but ideally I wouldn't be spending all of it to cover the purchase. Let's call the budget ~£15k, but this is flexible. I'll be buying used.

'The Golf' is our practical car for ferrying stuff around, shopping etc., so this car does not have to be in the least bit practical. If it's fun and happens to have a decent boot then that wouldn't be a problem, but I'm guessing I'll be looking at what you might call 'sports cars' (that aren't effeminate :p).

I have no idea what to look at as I've never shopped in this market before; grateful for any ideas, thanks!

Any further requirements?

Soft top?
Fuel Economy range?
Power?
Forced Induction or not?
RWD/FWD/AWD?
Badge important or not?
Is comfort an issue?

I thought you had an Audi S4 on order? :)

I cancelled the order as it would have maxed out my allowance, and considering we both have very short commutes, I changed my mind and pocketed the cash. There's always the option to get one in future if my job changes, but at the moment there's just no point running an S4 for a five minute commute.

I'll look at these, thanks.

Not really Gaijin. I would like this car to be a quick one rather than a sports car with a small engine like the low end MX-5s (no offence MX-5 owners).

Soft top is definitely not a requirement but if it has one, I won't mind.
Economy is not a factor at all.
Power - as above, faster the better.
Drive - don't mind either but probably RWD.
Badge is not an issue, comfort - only insofar as it gets me to work without a sore arse and doesn't leak when it rains.

Awwww an Exige S2 is just out of reach. I'd drive a Lotus first. May be a bit raw and harsh for you.

The Lotus may be a bit raw and harsh, or the VX220 might be?

If he wanted an Elise variant he would already know.

Would I? I know nothing about this car sector.

Anyway I'd better be looking round some Lotus and Vauxhall garages by the sounds of it, thanks.
