Chinese diners eat live fish

i tempted to believe the south park reason of why they hate fish in the east

because the CIA showed them all a photoshop of whales and dolphins flying the planes that dropped the nukes :p

legendary episode

I think you might have been beaten to the punch...

Indeed. Time for some new tactics. I say we send over Captain Birdseye to sort out this whole eating live fish malarkey for starters.

No, not at all. It is alleged to be a sense of discomfort rather than what we relate to as pain - as in, I feel discomforted when my hair gets wet in the rain, thus I try to avoid it (a silly example, but you get the idea).

Again, quantifying pain in fish is really an incredibly moot point. We should be aiming to avoid discomfort in the animals we kill for food within all reason.
Well there's discomfort and there's OW I'M GONNA DIE!

I daresay a fish feels a little less uncomfortable if it loses a scale compared to being sliced up, much like we get a bit peeved by stubbing our toe (well, that often hurts quite a lot - also stepping on lego bricks or a power plug heel first - ow), but might be a little more upset by losing a leg...

I realise we're /different/ to fish but I find it hard to believe they wouldn't have a scale of pain levels much like we do?

All that said, I'm a happy meat-eater. All creatures hurt when they die but one shouldn't toy with it and enjoy causing it.

Their neurology, including their brain and pain reception pathways, are (relatively) incredibly primitive. Sure, as with all sense reception there is some degree of sensitivity, but it's a bit like comparing the eye sight of an eagle to that of a mole, in terms of physiology.

Don't see much wrong with it to be honest

What's right with it? What's wrong with cutting off the fish head swiftly with a sharp knife then descaling and frying the rest which you eat? In fact, it'd probably be easier without it struggling, so I can be sure this is an exercise in cruelty and nothing else as I said earlier.

urgghhhhh!!!!
I'm Chinese and have come into contact with a lot of cultural things, but nothing like this! The head moving like that is soooo sickening!
