Car for a very short commute and some fun at the weekends?

Jeez what is it with the massively expensive Japcrap? He's not entering drag races at Santa Pod, imagine crawling through traffic every day in a 1995 Nissan thinking '£13k this, awesome'.

Yeah it would be so rubbish having a 600bhp Skyline as a weekend toy and to go to work in occasionally. :/

people confuse the "spec me a car thread" with a "how would you spend 15k" thread

The idea is not to think whats the most different or obscure car you could buy for 15k, or what car you've always been dreaming of and could buy with 15k

but what car you think the OP would be happy with for 15k.

He's blatently not the sort to buy a 14 year old nissan with 600bhp.

Yeah it's a lot, but if it's a genuine 600bhp that's proabbly where the money is going. And probably some scene tax in there too. But I think that much turbo goodness would be frankly awesome. :D

The only thing is, again, i'm not sure the engine would appreciate short journeys if it's got aftermarket forged pistons etc. Depends on how often it will be a weekend cart and how often it's needed to commute.

Easy tiger, it's only a suggestion (not even mine). The op can feel free to ignore.

It's also a fairly relevant suggestion for someone looking for a fast weekend / occasional commute car.

Supras can be had for £5k, but the running costs (considering what it is) are not worth it.

S2000 - comfortable drop top
Elise/VX - All fun
BMW 330i - Quick and Practical

ive made the point twice but i'll make it a third time.

A 14 year old nissan is not a good shot for a fast weekend / ocasional commute car if you dont like tacky old japanese interiors.

This is the man that bought a brand new golf for petes sake. Not even i could stomach the switchgear and clocks etc.. on a 14 year old nissan and i drive a vauxhall.

My suggestion would be to go for a Caterham 7 if you have a garage. It won't be very good for the commute, but better than walking and as long as you don't go for a highly strung engine a short commute wouldn't do it that much harm. As a weekend toy it's not much less practical than most of the other convertibles mentioned and a lot more fun to drive.

Firstly, likewise.

Secondly, if he didn't want people's opinions or thoughts, why would he create a thread titled: "Car for a very short commute and some fun at the weekends?"

I don't think the Supra is a bad idea in theory, but they are not worth spendign over 6-7k on one unless you into that kind of thing and they hate short journeys.

They need to be warmed up and cooled down and weigh the best part of 2 tonnes, they are quick but more of a motorway cruiser than a b road blaster.

BMW 330i - Quick and Practical

Wish people would stop recommending 330i's in every threads, they'll get a Mondeo-like reputation for being constantly pimped soon :(

Why on earth would a 330i be the right choice for a weekend car?! It's a refined, practical, fast, great ALL ROUNDER not a weekend toy.

That is why i put quick and practical.

The OP asked for suggestions i gave him 3 or 4.

I'm not holding a gun against his head, it was mentioned as a wild card, this is further highlighted as the previous recommendations were an elise/911.

I thought about mentioning the Monaro as a wildcard, but i'm not sure my flameproof suit is thick enough.
