Running a 6300 @ 3.15Ghz and noticed recently my temps were quite hot under idle (around 55-65c) which I thought was too hot. So I re-applied some AS5 and re-seated the HSF, temps seemed ok at default (1.86Ghz) at around 40+c.
Just overclocked it back to 3.15Ghz and my temps are way too hot. BIOS seems to give the lowest but all of these programs give slightly different results.
Any chance of a dodgy sensor? Using Artic Freezer Pro 7
EDIT = Another thought could be which way round I have seated the HSF. I think I had it facing the PSU many months ago and this time it is facing the back exhaust fan. This way round it looks like the copper heat sinks on my P5Q-E might be constricting it a little, any thoughts?
EDIT 2 - Think i may have found the problem. One of the weird/annoying clips this HSF uses is in but looks slightly higher than the others - the reason been (I think) is one of the plastic thingymijigs (shown below by red arrow) has snapped off. The HSF seems fine though (when I lightly jig it about, seems firmly seated).
Finally I notice on this picture the clips looks metal, my ones are crappy bits of plastic and no doubt bend/brake easily when trying to pop thought the mobo. Do news ones come with stronger/metal clips?
