Yeah seen a few people with them right in the middle of the windscreen. Talk about following it literally. I find it easier to mainly follow the audio and glance to the screen when needed.

I think bottom line is - women are quite carp at driving - observation, spacial awareness, controlling the vehicle, mechanical sympathy, driving at an appropriate speed, having a rubbish seating position is the icing on the cake!

This excludes - Vicki Butler-Henderson, Jodie Kidd & Ellen MacArthur!

Not me. I sit a long way back from the wheel, I don't like sitting too close, I feel cramped. I don't understand why most women feel the need to crouch right over their steering wheel. I'm not massively tall (5ft 6) and I have no issue seeing over my steering wheel and feel in control of the vehicle whilst having my body more than 6 inches from the steering wheel. I don't get it.

I think they do it so that they can see the end of the bonnet.

I've often gone past women doing it wondering if they know what kind of mess they'll end up in should the airbag deploy, it wouldn't be a pretty sight. :(

Every woman I know drives like this. Well, apart from my mother but she can't really be held up as an example of driving prowess (she parks by "feel").
IMO it's downright dangerous. As has been pointed out already, they can't possibly maintain full control of the vehicle with so little leverage on the steering wheel.

Main issue is you don't have proper control of the steering at that position.

You should adjust your seat so that you can stretch your arms out, and rest your wrists on the top of the steering wheel.

That is the optimum position for control.

I always get the impression that the people (mostly women) sitting like this are the types who a deathly afraid of driving, so I tend to give them a bit of space or a wide berth, because if they're afraid, then chances are they're going to do something stupid or dangerous.

It's probably why they're afraid. They sense how little control they have but have no idea why.

Maybe they have "modern", 21st century cars with PAS

Just a thought . .

And on what exactly do you base this remarkable insight into the minds of these "people (mostly women)"
