I realise NiN and trent reznor is pretty much a one off in terms of his style and tremendous talent, but is there anything out there with similarly beautiful yet downright tragic feel to it?

feelings and images that come into my head when I listen to these albums, urban decay, lost, regret, beauty, dark, lonely, frustration, wonder.

So far in my life, I've not found other music that gives me these same impressions and feelings.

For music similar to those two tracks, you might want to check out stuff like:

Biosphere - Substrata
NIN - Ghosts (though I assume you've got this!)
Boards of Canada
Deprogrammed
Explosions In The Sky
Lustmord

Thanks Shamikebab, :) I will set about those today on spotify. and yes I do indeed have ghosts, hell I have tracks that shouldnt exists in public domain such as rare live CBC recording studio sets for a small group of trents friends, :D

The Autumn Project and to some extent Russian Circles are along the same lines as Explosions and Boards of Canada.

The Autumn Project especially have created some beautiful post-rock in their time, although they can prove hard to track down.

Maybe check Red Sparowes too while you're at it.

I saw Jesu supporting Isis a few years ago and didn't think much to them. Heard some good reviews from people I trust though so perhaps I should investigate more...

NIN are without a doubt one of the most influential bands around (even if they did start off my ripping off/ paying homage to Skinny Puppy :p)

Aphex Twin's Jynweythek Ylow is similar to that second track. Drukqs and Come to Daddy are a couple of albums worth listening to.

All of Boards of Canada's studio albums are great.

I'd also recommend the score to Tetsuo: Iron Man by Chu Ishikawa.
