never done any mod ever to a car before but was thinking about what it would look like.

i also wouldnt know were to start to do it but would like an opinion anyway.

The orange reflector is just removed to get the de-tango look and it does clean the front end up nicely. There is risk the lights will never seal back up properly or you melt them in the oven.

If you're in to moddinga nd want to play about, then go for it. People will say there isn't much point, but then modding cars will always have that reaction. It's a personal thing and if you like it, do it :)

Now you need to fine sand the shiney exposed plastic, just until rough and dull, now prime the light.

Now wait for the primer to dry (about 20-30 minutes depending on primer used) now spray it black (or desired colour) you can do as many coats as you like but 2 coats should be fine.

Ok this is my guide to remove those horrid orange bits in the fiesta Mk5 headlights as shown below. I must advise that I take no responsibility if anything goes wrong when you are doing this or after you have done this. There is the legal bit out the way and now to the moding.

Step 1 : Removing the light

Ok the first step is to remove the light from the car. There are 3 screws that will need to be taken out and you will also need to remove the Grill from the car that just pops up from its mount. Disconnect the light from the wires by unplugging them and then take out the light and go somewhere where there is a power socket and is somewhere you can work.



Step 2 : Get the tools

You will need:

1.Hair Dryer
2.Screw Driver x 2
3.Spoon
4.Orange bulbs X2 or Phillips Silver Bulbs




Step 3 : Removing the clips

Take a screw driver and remove the 4 black metal clips from the light. There are 2 located on the top and 2 on the bottom. You can remove them buy putting the end of the screw driver under the clip and then turning the screwdriver slightly so the clip pings of. I recommend putting something over the clip such as a piece of material because when they ping they ping and your eyes are at risk!!!!! Keep all 4 of the metal clips as these will need to be replaced when the light is put back together.



Step 4 : Removing the glass

Use the hair dryer and heat up the corner of the light. After about 2 minutes the sticky stuff (very technical) that holds the glass to the plastic shell of the light becomes soft and the glass should start to come away from the plastic.



At this point put down the hair dryer and use a screw driver to prise the glass away from the plastic. DO NOT just pull the glass away from the plastic in the places you have not heated up!

Hold the screw driver in one hand and use the other hand to use the hair dryer and move along the top of the light slowly softening the bonding stuff and the glass will continue to come away from the glass at the place you are heating up. As you move along the light you will need to keep applying more and more pressure on the screwdriver.

When you have gone all the way along the top of the light and the glass has come away from the plastic take away the screw driver and pull the glass away from the plastic. Use the bottom of the light as a kind of hinge. It is best not to pull the bottom away as you can just fold out the light as below and do what you need to do. This help when putting the light back together.



Step 5 : Removing the Orange bit

Now you can work on removing the Orange bit from the light. The orange filter has 3 main places where it is attached to the light. All you really need to do is get under them with a screw driver and prise it away from the light. I recommend using a screw driver but put a piece of material at the bottom so you do not damage the light with the metal.



When the orange filter is free just life it out and put it somewhere safe as it is possible to put these filters back into the light in the future i.e. if you want to sell the car.



Step 6 : Putting the glass back on

Now the orange is removed you need to put the glass back onto the light. As before when you unfolded the light just fold it back up and push it together. Do this slowly and make sure that none of the bonding material gets stuck on the light etc when doing this as it’s a pain to remove!

Put the metal clips back onto the light in the places that you removed them in the first place. These just clip back n and hold the glass to the plastic.

Take the hair dryer again and go around the light and heat up the bonding material again and the pressure from the clips should be enough to make the bonding material bond the plastic and glass back together again.

Step 7 : Replacing the bulbs

Remove the old clear bulb from the light and put in your new Orange bulb or Phillips Silver bulb (that flashes silver) so that the indicator still flashes orange when you indicate.

Step 8 : Putting the light back

Put the light back into the car by attaching the wires and screwing it back in the way you removed it in the first place.

If you have the time/patience to do it then it's worth it. Might be worth getting a cheapy light from a scrappy to test on first.

First looks like an ordinary (if slightly unloved) Fiesta. Second looks like a boy racers Fiesta. If that's what you want then go for it, it certainly doesn't improve the look though.
 
Rain should be beading from that bonnet, it looks very filthy. Spend your time giving it a good wash and polish. It will improve it more than painting the lights a different colour :p
 
Some of the comments are pretty loltastic.

Reduce market value and whats the point?

It cleans the front end up nicely and is so subtle I doubt anyone would even notice without it being pointed out. I personally would just get rid of the fried egg look and leave the reflectors the standard silver.

I would do mine but it involves baking light clusters open and there is not an aftermarket clear lens for my revision of car.
 
Every car i've ever had i've always changed the indicator bulbs for silver painted ones, just looks better than the tango look.

Could quite easily swap his modified lights for standard ones on an owners forum if he came to sell, not that people will probalby notice or mind the difference.

I guess i just dont see the point in paying a fiesta attention above and beyond maintenance and cleaning until the time comes to upgrade. Doesnt look like i am the only one either :)
