*** 5800 Series Update ***

Well no, blame falls squarely at AMD for canning the 5850/70's, to hoard all the chips for the 5970's, its a disgrace, 2x 5800's on each of those, could have got shot of a lot of back orders from here. :/

I heard they are cherry picking the best and most efficient 5870s aswell for the 5970s to keep it below the 300W allowed max power usage aswell.

That could mean the current batch of 5870 all run slightly less efficient than the release parts, which could effect overclocking etc. With the price increase aswell, early adopters are for once the lucky ones!

It could all be rumour though, but it seems to be a realistic assumption.

A 5970 chip would never of found it's way into a 5850 board. The best chips went into the 5970(i.e the ones that leak the least power at 850Mhz). The 5850 card uses chips with a damaged SIMD unit, or ones with cores that might not reach 850MHz.

Secondly, people knew the 5970 was coming. If the card was never announced then the people that bought it would have just bought the 2 5870/5850, Xfire'ed them, meaning that there would have been even greater demand for those cards. The 5970 did reduced the supply of the 5870, but also reduced the demand for both the 5870 and 5850. So in the end the 5970 probably had little to no impact on the supply/demand ratio of the 5800 series.

Thirdly, when a company makes a roadmap they stick to it as much as possible- thats why they are made! If they don't, then investor's and customers lose confidence.

Well you have obviously spat the dummy over one bad experiance and the backlog of the 58xx series is not oc's fault not to mention you wer one of the many thoudsands that have been bombarding them with webnotes , i have had nothing but fantastic service from these guys , just read the forums throughout everyone wants the 58xx series , as for the other "bad" i bet ther are 100 good reviews to one bad .

Pre order is what it says you get it when overclockers get it , and they take the money right away so that the demand is visible to the supplyer resulting in a much bigger piece of the cake ;)

Sorry but your missing the point. When i ordered it was before the rush/shortage and was told it was in stock and would ship in the next 48 hours. Again this was not a pre order!. And i just keep hearing/reading the same story time and again.
Part of my reasoning for always using OC`ers is their swift service, excellent build quality and dare i say it sterling customer service. But as anyone with the slightest knowledge of buisness practices will attest -rule 1 always keep your customer informed, OC`ers failed superbly.
If it was not for stumbling across Fatboys updates i would have been totally in the dark, as to the global shortage and infact more likely to keep hassling OC`ers.
I`m sure if you went in to Mc D*nalds ordered and paid for a burger, told they would bring it over to your table, but you ended up just sitting there for the next month with no burger or explination as to why - you would be the first to winge, ney spit yer dummy.
As for the negitive post on this forum, i suggest you go to specksavers as those rose tinted ones seem to be wearing out;)

And one last thing i notice your given occupation xh17m4n is DPD courier driver - Same company OC`ers use to deliver good i understand. Conflict of intrest perhaps???

The webnotes system has worked for me, I got a swift response which I was happy with. Mine was in a pre-order state, I didnt realise the demand would be so high! I don't blame OC at all, always had fantastic service. Just annoying that the first high end card I buy is the one that is very scarce!

I can understand peoples frustrations and annoyance, but you just need to chill and be patient if it is not an urgent thing.

Ouch and oops.:D

That doe'snt even make any sense i fail to see how working for the same courier company that OcUK use could be constrewed as a conflict of interests.

I must admit I don't like my money being taken when there's no stock and not even a date for stock!

Which is why I never pre-order anything.

I agree with MonkeySpy, the webnote system fails - I never get a satisfactory reply.

Most notable incident: I used the webnote to cancel an order at 10pm, next morning I decided to call to confirm, called them 1st thing, and they said it has been packed ready to ship that same morning BEFORE the phone lines opened - they refused to look for the parcel and not ship it, instead it had to be sent and I had to refuse delivery - strange eh? I'm cancelling, they rather send it and pay the carriage TO & FROM my address !?

I pre-ordered a ASUS 5970 this time at OC, and was told I was 2nd in queue and stock will be in 23/11/09... come 23/11/09, nothing.

So I cancelled, ordered from elsewhere and it's arrived today (and got it £30.00 cheaper)

OC gotta do something about their customer services... I'm sure they can do better!

I've used OC since my first build of Athlon 1Ghz Thunderbird AXIA, so I'm quite loyal still... Giving them a chance here n there!

I ordered the Sapphire 5970. Website showing 3 left in stock at time of order. Do you think I got one? Nope. Didn't get any of the 20 that allegedly arrived on 23/11 either.

In those circumstances I would have contacted Ocuk and unless they came up with a satisfactory solution cancel the order. It doesn't matter they have an excellent customer relationship its how they deal with you.:)

Well my system with a Sapphire 5870 in it just shipped. So there must be some trickling through!

Tres Excited :D

When did you order yours dude? What version did you get?
Been waiting a month Today!

Whats the longest wait then guys, surely no longer than a month?!?!

I wouldnt mind waiting, but I was told that I would recieve one within a week and cancelled my order with ADMI who had the powercolor in stock!!!

I think this is going off topic...

The thing is, I've lost the sense of confidence on OCuk on their "dates"...

For example:
I've made orders at about midday on a Thursday, during checkout, it asks what day to deliver, I put in a date for Friday (I'll get it for the weekend = "fun time!" ).

Item is "in stock", I'm paying for "carriage", then I wait for that "confirmation of despatch"... nothing. No explanation. That's bad! My "fun time" for the weekend has gone! - so that "deliver to me" date thing during checkout is totally unreliable (for me).

This time I called (on my order for 5970) and was told a date, but still got let down. Shame that!

On a good note, I like the way the site is laid out. Very easy to find things!

amd know that they cannot make enough to reach demands so its not OCuks fault. it all depends on amd.

Ur missing the point. We know there low numbers coming out from ATI but what people are annoyed about is OCUK allowing an endless number of pre-orders when there is no stock coming so no one knows when they will get their card.

Have to say tho it is the same at another place where i have preordered 2x 5870s (hedging my bets - thank u credit card). Dates missed and no update, i'd preorder them from OC but the price is too different.

I know there's a supply problem but I don't blame amd on what is actually offered on OCuk's site...

if it's an unknown date, or if stocks not there, why list it for all to see in the first place - OCuk can just list a bogus card, say OCuk Value 5970 Extreme, and have it on pre-order?

What's worst is you get charged for the pre-order... Is the customer king?
