Thinking of apple 3Gs... stop me!!

I've switched from a iphone 3g to a hero recently. I'm still on the O2 iphone tariff as well, I bought the hero from a guy in work for less than I could sell the iphone for and sim unlocked it.

Things with the iphone, reliance on iTunes, I hate that software, don't need it for anything else. No background apps so all the issues that Doz said and also much worse notifications of new types of messages. Also speed, not just UI speed but data speed. Using the same O2 iphone sim in both phones the Hero is much much faster at getting and using data, from youtube to just browsing the web. It's like the iPhone data connection is crippled.

The HD2 is also very good, the hardware is ace, very fast, great screen and it's also barely any larger than the iphone. I still prefer the Hero though, underneath the HD2 is still the clunky MS OS, do anything that isn't sense ui and you end up with windows 3.11 style menu systems. The new message notifications are also not as good, with the Hero you get a specific icon at the top, just touch near the top and drag down to get more details. Can't wait for the Dragon, HD2 hardware with Andriod os :)

Oh I don't really use many apps so the iphones ridiculous number of useless apps doesn't really bother me, but perfect integration to google mail, calender and contacts does.

Thats one of the factors of me not getting an iphone in the end.

I got no reward for being a orange customer over 2 x 18 month contracts.

The cost is to much for what?

The fact that it cannot run multi apps is a joke.

Plus itunes is just a PITA

Steve jobs iphone is nothing but big jobs. :D
 
So, iphone not too good then.. But the HD2 looks good? if i read this thread right..

Ok, off to the French telephone companies to see if they have a HD2 :)

Cheers all.. Any other phones worth it? really want internet and mp3 player in it.

HTC Hero :) Lovely UI, Google operating system so many decent applications (google maps, sky maps), multitasking, decent battery life, smooth OS now they've had the update (ignore all the complaits about the phone being slow, it simply isn't anymore), it's available on Orange/Vodaphone I think, the camera isn't great but everything else is.
 
I went for iphone in the end over hero after watching reviews on youtube by phonedog.

in a direct shootout though hero they said had most potential it wasn't quite 'sorted' and they still said iphone pipped it as best device

I like the simplicity also.. just does what you need

I do miss live feeds to homescreen though and occasionally multitasking, also hate itunes and not being able to use the device as flash storage without hacking it... and hacking phones is something that life is too short for

Also miss remote controlling the iphone from a PC app...

Yeah don't get me wrong I had my Iphone for around 18 months, loved it at first. After about a year or so its limitations began to show through.
 
Still undecided.

I have watched and read up on both phones, hell, even went into the orange shop and held both. They wont do a 1 or 2 day trial of either phone which i thought was stupid. Reason being in France they are not cheap.

Iphone and HTC HD2 are 199 euros, thats the cheapest and then 55 euros a month, extra if you wish to phone landlines to the UK too.

But i still like the look of the HTC HD2, but in the back of my mind, no one i know has one, yet loads have a Iphone..

Is it really all down to advertising or is the 3Gs an ok phone now?

I went with the hero.

Couldn't be happier.

I feel in control of my phone.

Not buying into corporate nonsense.

The price of the iphone on 18 month contracts is a joke.
 
Thing is, having worked with macs in the past and seen how 'not good' they are put together i wonder if the phone is goign to be any better..

but so many ppl like them, is that all advertising, i know apple are dam good at it and they do look nice, but i want substance more than style, it will be in my pocket 80% of the time!

But i also want programs...

Gah!! i dont know which to get, maybe both lol..
