So when i did my RAM upgrade I knocked off the little IR sensor on my Mini. Finally got around to getting a new one today. Open her up, fit it except it is a different connector to the old one. I fumble around a bit, it appears to fit but is not seated all that well.

Fire it up for a test, no remote still.

So I take it to bits again, have a little gander and a fumble with the connector. (it's miniscule).

I figure it will seat properly if I'm braver and push it.

It then decides to snap the connector off the board.

On the upside, it is now properly seated.

grrr! I now need to buy a new interconnect board - the one on the site I'm using, the picture is markedly different to the one I have in my Mac Mini... I dunno if the picture's an old one (from the G4)... I assume so.

This will have cost me just over £60 to fix now! Buggrit.

I shouldn't be allowed near Mac Minis, that's for sure!

I'm going to order the board and get our technician at work to do it (yes, I opted to do it myself even though I've already broken it once and I work with an Apple Cert'ed technician, I am the king of the noobs).

I think it was a pride issue, but it's clear I should drop pride for a moment and let him do it :D

Funniest thing is, I may be getting put through my cert this year o_O

In fairness though I'm usually pretty decent at this stuff, I had a Mini before and worked on it with no worries, this one just hates me

Watch the examiners recoil in horror as you walk in to sit the test. :D

To be fair I've heard the Mac Minis aren't the easiest of things to work with. I've thought about opening mine up but I just couldn't be bothered with the potential headache.

This thread reassures that notion. :p

Well, first time I did a RAM upgrade everything was fine, a little scary but easy.

This time I was half cut when I did it (don't ask) and I cracked a RAM clip (still works fine), had to open and shut it like five times, and one of the times I dinged the IR sensor.

This time I bust it because it was a different connector, miniscule, and... well like I said, when I finally got it seated it simultaneously snapped off!

I'd do it again, I tells ya!

possibly
