BMW question.

It massively reduces driver fatigue.
really? do you have any proof?

you look around at things all the time anyway. you look in your mirrors every few seconds, so i can't see how not having to look at your dials would make you significantly less fatigued..

It boosts residuals as SAT is so rare people pay a little more for it on the used market. Therefore they turn a slight 'profit' or at worst break even.

I really don't think it will make any difference to resale really as most buyers aren't really interested in it even at the low cost from new. It will make the car more attractive to someone who wants it but that's not the average customer. I bet most auto 5s never really see sports mode used anyway and it is only the pedals and selector that make it different. The gearbox and software is all the same with or without SAT.

These owners should be detected when the car is in for a service, and banned from buying an M Sport variant in the future - the computer should only let them order SE's.

Haha. You know it's true though when you see most of them.

nothing wrong with an SE:(

Meh.

Wishes he had gone for the m-sport 530

Knob or not, he's sickeningly clued up on his subject and knows it back to front, hence he is usually the first port of call for BMW advice.

I totally agree but sometimes he cant see past his own opinion and that lets him down when he starts calling others who dont share it idiots.

I apologise unreservedly to the hoards of brand new BMW owners who don't post here and will never post here that I called them idiots for not chosing SAT when they ordered a brand new car.

I think the hud is great.

When I am stuck at 50 going through SPECs my "80s retro" (as some may describe it) S2000 speedo is a GODSEND.

Looking at dials is such a chore ;)

Because in certain people, the need to constantly re-focus their eyes between the road ahead and their instrument panel causes fatigue, particularly headaches or a feeling of mental exhaustion.

should they really be driving then?
because the eyes should be re-focusing all the time on objects far and away, in mirrors, etc..

If you're looking at an object in a mirror, it's irrelevant how far away it is as your eyes are focusing on the mirror itself.

Interesting point. Is the HUD proven to counteract it? You'd still have to focus close by as opposed to road ahead, surely?

No because the hud doesn't require the eyes to fully focus on its display. The hug shows basic, not detailed, information in a simple to read form. The eyes pick up the large numbers/colours periphally.

It's the same with fighter pilots and their HUD's.
They can still be looking through the canopy AND take in the HUD info without needing to focus away from events outside the aircraft.

That's what cruise control is for; actually SPECS cameras are the only time I use cruise control.

When I bought the E61 it was a toss up between an SE with HUD (and every single other option going) and an MSport without it. I took the MSport as the HUD just seemed like a toy with no real value. Besides, I'm a baby killer who only uses his speedo when i see a camera or the police.
