Xbox 360... So loud!

Right, with the installation of my new home cinema sound system (SWEET), the 360 has had to be relocated upon my desk stood upright next to my 32" LCD... Now, problem is, the xbox is LOUD. Just tried to play some bad company but the disk in the tray was so loud it was annoying me very badly :(

Any way to get rid of this as I really don't want to have to install each game every time I want to play it due to only having a 20gb HDD atm.

Installing and uninstalling your games as you play them is your only option unfortunately. It's horrendously loud isnt it. :( I have the same issue, 20gb drive, and installing 1 game at a time. My living room should not sound like this! But it's a price i pay gladly for sexy Gameage :p
 
Put it on the carpet if you can it absorbs a lot of the noise. Thats what I did anyway underneath my table and its now noise isn't an issue for me.
 
As you found out it's more noisy upright especially with screen printed labels (except for the XBL banner) unbalancing the disc. Of the games I have it's all the MS that have this type of printing Forza 3 and ODST. I guess it must be cheaper. All my games are installed, but even so just the boot up noise on those I've mentioned is awful.

I read somewhere you can flash the drive with a different firmware to limit the rotation to 5x. This will make load times a bit longer but also quieter. It might also get your console banned for being modified, I am not sure.


Alternatively I found a few people have used rubber grommets to mount the drive and sound deadening matting to reduce the noise further.

Wow, I did'nt know you could buy complete metal replacement enclosures for your xbox hardware to make it look like a lian-li style mini pc. Cool or what.
