FreeviewHD (DVB-T2) starting 2nd December

Chances are your tuner will decode H.264, but only tune to DVB-T. UK will be using DVB-T2/H.264 so I very much doubt your equipment will work. Unless they start transmitting H.264 on the old DVB-T network.

Yep. Also I believe that the use of better DVB-T2 means that the Playstation playtv being advertised as HD was a bit of a joke.

Or have sony stopped mentioning HD support?

Do we know any timescale for availability of DVB-T2 receivers?

I'd guess it's going to be:
  1. DVB-T2 Set top Box
  2. DVB-T2 PVR
  3. Integrated DVB-T2
  4. Integrated DVB-T2 & Integrated Freesat (e.g. Panasonic G10 but with DVB-T2 instead of DVB-T) <--------- That's what I'm really waiting for!

Screw set top boxes. I PVR everything in media centre so bring on the USB dongles!

Oh great so my 46" sony TV I spent £1400 on just over a year ago won't be able to get this....

Fan******* tastic!

:( i only get 6.5mb.

i'm not buying another box, sure it'd be nice to have hd, but its just another way of getting more money out of you.

Yep , its the truth alright , they could have used existing DBV-T and packaged
the data as H264 , thats what other countries are doing....
But its nice to live in the UK cos we do things differently :-)

Regarding the UK's use of the new DVB-T2 streams, we don't do it differently, we are the first to use this new standard and once completely rolled out everyone else will be using it too.

But that isn't really a benefit. Most people I know can't get a TV signal via any other way other than a Dish, as there is no viable aerial signal either for normal SD TV or Freeview.

The lease on my flat prohbitis the use of a satellite dish. So freeview HD it is for us. :)

So when the whole country has switched over and Freeview HD is all up and running by 2013, does that mean they'll start knocking the SD channels on the head? So we will have BBC1 HD, BBC2 HD, ITV1 HD, BBC News HD, BBC Parliament HD, etc etc.?

SD/HD channels will run side by side. There is no end date for DVB-T at present and won't be for a long time yet.

Bit of a shame that this will not work through the millions of intergrated TV's already in the marketplace :(

Has anything on Crystal Palace made way for these channels or are there additional muxes for them ?
I am hoping my fairly old capture card will be able to recieve the .ts or is there no chance of that ? comprodtv T200/T220

Sorry must have not made my point correctly
DVB-T can be used to package HD signals BUT instead of doing this
They decided to create a new format , for what technical reason ?
None that I could see
monetary reasons , I can see a few

Nice story here for the technically minded
