As of Dec 15th MS launch a new games on demand service for PC. Not much of interest with their launch titles as all recent existing PC games but this means they are finally starting to take an interest in PC gaming again so expect more activity and maybe even some new PC game development love. You will also be able to reinstall as many times as you like on as many PC's as you like as it will only run on 1 at a time with your gamertag so no need to keep track of activation limits anymore you can roam on as many PC's as you like all you need to do is use your same gamertag.

EU pricing is rumoured to be $ to £ which is good news for UK obviously ;)

Shame it's part of the epic fail that is GFWL :/ I guess the whole problem for me personally with new services to rival steam like this is that I already have a huge bunch of games on my Steam account, and I don't really want to be in the situation where I have to install about 5 programs for people like Steam, Impulse, EA, Microsoft (etc) just so I can play my games.

yeah, they should fix & improve GFWL before trying to build a distro system around it. Chances are MS will also try and use a points system or something stupid for pricing.... that way it will link in with your XBL acct :|

Hopefully it will force Steam into lowering it's prices. Some of it's games are artificially high on there.

M.

I doubt thats Valves doing. The whole, no stock thing, its probably part of the deal when they sell it.

I don't know why they waste there time. On the Xbox it works, if only because there is absolutely no alternative. On the pc, you've got to be kidding. They treat you like they treat all console gamers (like 5 year olds given the retarded Point system for purchasing) and they don't even bother integrating it properly.

Steam overlay = pure win

Its good news to be honest.

Installing 5 applications to download your games from Microsoft, EA, Steam is much better than what we are used to.. installing every game on its own.

I've always been a fan of Steam and the digital distribution. Its a great service and makes my life easier.

That depends entirely on the catches associated with them. Doesn't the EA store have a limit on how long the game is 'yours' to download? Oh but of course, you can pay to extend this limit! I mean seriously. MS might be more sensible, but given the money-grabbing rep they've got from XBL do you seriously expect them not to charge for things that should be free?

Steam has no competitor and never will at this rate. As far as i can see it, EA offer nothing but there own titles, i can't see MS doing it much differently. Combined with the catches they have i see no reason to have anything but Steam installed.

did they ever release the zune here? I've actually heard it's not an awful device

Nope, never got a release outside the US as far as I know. The latest iteration of it is apparently quite good. The first one, however, looked AWFUL. Apple must have wet themselves laughing when it game out. It also had wi-fi, which was cool, but which MS then made completely useless by crippling the transfer of songs over it, due to piracy concerns.

I think he means they will convert price from $ to £, rather than 1:1 between $ and € then converting from €, which is annoying

Just actually read that page

All games can be purchased either by credit card or with Microsoft Points.
ewwwww

This is great news.

Yes, we all know that GFWL live sucks.

But if you remember, so did Steam when it first came out.

Small, baby steps. :)
steam was a new platform being built from ground up by a developer wishing to remove issues with publishers

GFWL on demand is a platform being built upon a crappy platform (GFWL) that tries to emulate a service built for a different system by a publisher looking to make money

there's a big difference :)

they dont seem to have got the idea, i dont want 3/4 multiple apps to get the same games... IMO they missed the boat here. Steam is too big. People have spent too much time and money in it, although, itll probably take off when they ram it down our throats.

One could say Playstation was too big, and it was massive, before MS entered the console market. Look at them now. I wouldn't put it past MS to do well in this market.

Valve, on the other hand, were always a great developer, even when steam sucked. Microsoft, on the other hand...well, they could have the slickest front end in the universe, but behind it all they'll still be microsoft.

The only way i can think MS doing this is by making some Digital download GFWL releases only available via them.

Forcing the consumer to buy retail or use the MS crap... I would rather only have Steam as my main digital download solution, but i cant see this being the case once MS get their grubby paws in.
