Nokia N900

Anyone with MPD not 'pending stock' yet?

Edit: Awaiting despatch. Excited for man-toy delivery :D

I make so few calls anyway, mainly browse and email so this is right up my street.

Mine's still pending stock also - however I did order mine one of the last people, aka about a week ago or less.

I am hoping/expecting mine at the later part of next week, which I'm happy with.

Really Tempted To go get this on contract. Im 9 months into my contract of 18months so cant afford another seperate contract. Im thinking i might just cancel the DD with 3 and not let them take out any money from my account.

Arrgh Choices!

Got mine now :D
First impressions are very good, screen quality is amazing, but it is a smudge magnet, my screen protector will take care of that when it arrives.
UI is slick, but not that intuitive for me coming from a WM background, but Im getting used to it and its growing on me
Syncing with exchange fine, but it is very slow, might be the 3Gb size of my mailbox  I have seen postings regarding this, I will have to have a clear out of my inbox as it is a bit unwieldy at 2549 messages, thats my task for xmas...
The browser is nothing short of stunning, I have just spent the last 40 mins happily browsing away, and I love the hermes app, which goes off and scrapes facebook and twitter and matches up with my contacts - very cool.

Next on the list is sorting out my ssh connection for vpn tunnel into work so I can then access my switches, and I might even try the remote desktop app and see how that works as well.

Im still playing around and getting used to it, will post some more at a later date when I have figured out a few more things, but so far Im very impressed and so glad I left WM6.5 behind

Whats the latest with this phone. Is the update for it out yet or anything ive still got until just after christmas until my one appears. The guys that got theirs how you finding it now that youve had it a good few days.

How are you finding the resistive screen? Anyone like to compare it with the iPhone's screen for responsiveness?

Well its just as responsive Id say, however you need to press a little on the screen so a different experience. I prefer capacitive, however the N900 resistive screen is fantastic, you just need to get used to applying a little pressure, and you are all set.

Yeah i mind of seeing that im just wondering if either you or edgedemon have tried any decent apps or that on it yet. Its the emulators and stuff like that im looking forwards to trying out the most myself. Still thanks for any feedback.

Apps, well I have installed a few -

ecoach, works v well (for Sport/GPS tracking).
Maps - is slow slow slow to load but works fine once open.
Mauku - Using it to edit my blog, does what it says on the tin.
Firefox - a little slow, the inbuilt browser is quick and pretty faultless.
Transmission - Bittorrent client, beautiful - I downloaded a few things over wifi just to test it, it also worked over 3g.
Hermes - I have synced my facebook/twitter info/images to my contacts, works v well.

Chat is so integrated in the phone (MSN, Gmail, Yahoo etc) you dont need a seperate client. The same for video - its played everything I chucked at it.

There arent a massive amount of apps, but its is early days..

Emulators - The only one I have used is the Game Gear/Master System emulator which works very well indeed - I love it. Especially the fact that there are physical buttons on the N900, makes a whole world of a difference for playing games. The arrow keys obviously arent as good as a Dpad, but its usable. Basically I have my old Game gear back - Sonic, hurrah.

Want me to try anything out?

How long is battery life with something that uses 3g running on the background, and GPS at the same time? Guess transmission should stretch the first one. Can download/seed some linux distrobution or something for test.
