more exciting than a 1.8 mondeo
there are so many 'sensible' saloons available for ~£5k i can't really see a problem here
1 x years Tax - £405
£405 a year for car tax is peanuts, stop moaning and be thankful you live in the UKSeems expensive ,don't really understand this car tax scam ,a huge tow lorry parks down my road taking up 3-4 car parking spaces yet pays the same tax as my fto @ £200 ,how can that be right
A four wheel disco also pays the same as me![]()
How about something like an 04 plate Accord 2.4i for now? (type-s or not type-s as its just a badge basically)

yeh rip of Britain .............great .
Probably best to go for the Exec over the Type-S as you don't really want the uinnecessarily hard suspension and tyres
certain things in the UK are indeed a rip-off, but the cost of motoring isn't one of themyeh rip of Britain .............great .
i think what people are forgetting here is the VXR really didn't cost very much to run..Volvo S60 R. Job done.
Can you get the 2.4 in Sport trim?
Suspension on our sport is fine but for motorway use the dealer warned us off the 17" wheels so we stuck with the 16" ones, means cheaper tyres too.

Most, if not all of the creature comforts you have now, running costs are generally very low by any standards, no 6 cylinder engine to go boom, no turbos, its still a reasonably fast saloon and they're now starting to appear in masses for around £4.5/5k leaving huge amounts spare should any glitches happen ? I suppose the only obvious drawback would be the crap boot space.
The clutch has gone on the vectra
My own stupid fault for fitting a remap basically and then enjoying it and pushing the limits of what the gearbox can take.
I personally would just fit the new clutch and get on with it.
But me and the wife have just had a massive row about it to the point that shes stormed out, and ive been told in no uncertain terms either the car goes or she goes.
Trouble is, im struggling to think of something that is going to satisfy her demands as to what she considers cheap
The vectra has so far cost me in 18 months and 20k miles
2 x sets of front tyres at £120 a corner - £480
1 x set of back tyres - £240
1 x set of brake pads £100
1 x years Tax - £405
1 x Service at £160 from vxl dealer.
and now £800 for new clutch.
So the car is going to have to be prior to 2006 to qualify for pre 2006 tax of £215. Also going to need a car with small wheels so the tyres dont cost £130 each. I dont care, and know this is the price you pay for good tyres but she does, and all she can see is that our last car had 15" steel wheels and needed tyres at £55 each.
Any ideas of something that help me pacify her that im getting something cheaper to run thats still entertaining to drive ? whilst still being a fully functional 4 door saloon ?
Save the debate that the costs are expected and not unreasonable, i know this. But this has turned into a massive issue, and i'm not willing to split my little boys parents up over a car. Its only a hunk of metal after all.
If you sell it now that means she controls you, say bye to a normal life then!
