I'm amazed at how many americans believe in all that. Especially with modern day science + astronomy I haven't looked at the figures but I honestly wouldn't be suprised if 80% believed in the story of the bible.:eek::rolleyes:
What do you all think? and if you'd like to join me on certain websites laughing at american christians then you'd be most welcome :D

I'm not a christian, in fact i'm a scientist but I must point out to you that suggesting christianity is now reserved for crack pot americans alone will not make you friends. Cultures differ.

I really haven't made my mind up, so I'd say I was agnostic. However, you say 'especially with modern day science and astronomy'. How does this disprove the existence of God exactly in your opinion?

You also say 'the story of the bible' as if it's like a story book. Have you not thought that there is perhaps a deeper understanding to be had from these 'stories' than just what happens in them?

Atheist here - well, agnostic, mainly due to my scientific background, but I'm open minded enough to accept other peoples beliefs. Sure we are incredibly advanced and there are number of factors which make some of the claims unlikely, but then we can never be certain, so in that respect I guess I sway more towards the agnostic end of the spectrum.

As said above, many scientists are religious - one man I knew said his science helped him to believe and test his faith. I liked that explanation.

I think that I'm not sure.

Because of the vastly huge universe, (billions and billions of stars for example) many variables such as black holes, dark matter and heck even stuff on our own planet which can't be explained / we don't have answers for at the moment. Because of the huge complexity of nature, the history of many events in the bible, I honestly cannot and will nt say that there isn't a god.

Do I believe there is? I'm not sure of that either. I will say though that I believe *IF* the bible is true, and *IF* God is real then the events that happened within (such as adam and eve and the tree) are metaphors and not too be taken in a literal content.

I'm in the mind that if there is a god, he will have understood that we (back then) were far to primitve too understand anything of real complexity.

If you want my honest truthful answer, I would say there is more chance of no than yes, but I'm not going to rule anything out.

I've never been religious and would personally take much of the bible with a pinch of salt, but i'm not in for bashing people because of their religious views.

Each to their own and all that.

I think there is a vast disparity between the age of the Earth according to science and according to the bible.

Here's a thread that hasn't been done before.

*grabs popcorn*

It's inevitable now. You know it. I know it. Let the poo-flinging begin!

is there? You are assuming that it is literal and you are assuming someones calculation that 6000 years is correct. Seeing as he bible does not give a date.
