Underbody rust proofing

Problem with the method above is you can only really get to open areas, not box sections, for that you need a proper gun & probe.

Wonder if you could adapt one of the garden pressure sprayers to work.

That's true... but in my case, the nozzle of the plant sprayer fits into Saxo's box section holes no problem, so I just spray in as much as I feel is necessary. :)

Thats one pretty clean VTR/Quiky!

Danke, there's a couple of pictures here if you're interested. Was totally standard when I waxoyled it... bar the poly bushes in the rear beam. :)

Ah a black VTS, sorry I presumed it was an R due to not seeing the disks, have you uprated the rear torsion bars, as on my GTi they are red?

Waxoyl isn't supposed to be all that.

Dynax s50 is the shizz apparently, not sure if you can just apply it over other coatings though.

That's the point, he wants to be able to keep it for ever and when he dies, to pass it on to his grandchildren.

If thats the case tell him to get it hot dipped galvanized.

Ive seen some People down here get it done to Ol land Crusiers when they rebuild them for use on the beach:cool:

Isn't that going to cause "issues" with the existing brand new paintwork, quite aside from anything else

Now that sounds more like it - Bilt Hamber Dynax S50 - thanks :)

tbh most new cars are well sorted on the corrosion front, but a little extra work aint going to hurt, I do the bottom of the galaxy every year its an 01 plate, it does say in the service guide to do it, and I have also done it to the clio (08 plate), I had all the inner wings off to get to the metal underneath, all it had was seam sealer on it.
It also cut down on the drumming and road noise(which is y I did it) I'll put another coat on next year as well.

bullit

Waxoyl is fine within chassis rails etc. but IME it doesn't last 5 minutes in exposed places, it just seems to get washed off.

Having an immaculate body is a bit pointless if the running gear is completely decrepit. Most modern cars are scrapped due to accident damage or expensive mechanical failures these days, the total opposite the the situation say, 15 years ago.

How depressing :(

Accidents are one of those things, your car can be parked at the side of the road and some drunk can plough into it in the middle of the night - c'est la vie.

However, you really would think that by this stage, manufacturers would have managed to manufacture cars where expensive mechanical failures within 10 or 20 years was the exception rather than the norm :( . . . perhaps they have some reason for NOT doing so

When they invent metal bearings and other materials that last for an infinite period of time, I'll let you know. For now you'll have to keep replacing 'wear and tear' parts that eventually expire. Sorry about that.

Are many cars, other than Fiestas, written off as a result of the expensive failure of 'wear and tear' parts

ps - when you find out, please don't bother to "let me know", I really am not that interested in your pearls of wisdom.

Turns out, manufacturers haven't yet been able to isolate the rare element "win", so as yet, parts are subject to wear and tear..

If you think about it, it's actually pretty impressive how long they last for - however many kilos of metal rubbing against each other at up to 120Hz over a period of years.

Yes, I'd say so.

My car failed it's MOT and I had Nationwide Autocentre throw a £600 quote at me. Now considering my car is only worth say £800, like a lot of 11 year old common mass produced cars, I can see how some people would write that off an an uneconomical repair, scrap the car and buy a new one.

Now considering the only work that needed doing was 2 CV boots, a caliper and a new set of Discs and Pads, it's hardly a major failure and are considered wear and tear parts.
