Apple tablet

It exists, no doubt.

If it will ever come to market remains to be seen.

Agreed, but due to the direct involvement of Jobs at the time it's been in a cycle of create'n'scrap due to Job's exacting requirements without compromise.

I think a two page tablet would have value both as a laptop and as side by side A4 book reader. Only issue is the battery life with two screens and using it all the time. Add to that the issue of eye strain needs to be resolved.

It's the shiney, shiney that's all new and beautiful.

Basically if there's a tablet it'll be a combination of phone and laptop in one - so you can do video conferencing etc.

Gut feel is that it's a nice idea but people still have their computer, their phone. I'd probably see the laptops get SIM slots built in for mobile broadband next.

An E-Reader of some kind will definately arrive and a talbot is perfect for it. Right now the e-reader market is an utter mess with varied formats, and publisher issues - as a person who used to regularly read them on his iPhone I gave up in frustration.

iTunes is the perfect distribution medium for them too. Apple have practically bagged multitouch tech with the success of the cappy screens on the iphone, and with gesture tech on OSX so all of that just begs for a nice portable screen so we can all walk around pretending to be Captain Picard.

The problem is an eBook reader requires different screen technology. The current level of technology that is good for eBooks is bad for computing because the way the screens work.
Until colour fast response eBook screens appear then it's unlikely that apple will push the eBook seriously. Probably something they're working on until the tech becomes ready.

I dont really get the hype with the apple tablet all of a sudden, tablets have been around for years O.o

Probably not in the sense that apple are rumoured to be thinking about. It's purportedly somewhere between an iphone and netbook in functionality, nothing like the tablet pc's which have been around for ages.

I suspect the screen will be standard OLED or similar, rather than any fancy e-ink technology, nobody else is anywhere near a working e-ink video screen for production yet so it's highly unlikely apple are. Which will likely do fine for reading a few newspaper articles on the train, expensive way to do it though...
